Description
A couple of my friends may disapprove of the inspiration for this drawing - an episode of Samurai Jack - but I personally thought that being a fan of both, the idea of mashing up the terminator with 1940s film noir style gangsters, ending up with a robot mafia, was pretty cool. So I decided to make a slightly more realistic drawing of it, which I hope they will approve of a little more!
The robot itself is - or what little you see anyway - essentially the T800 Terminator, wearing the same outfit as the robot from the cartoon.
I tried to think of a vintage car suitable for a gangster that looked, at least minimally, like the flying cars driven by the robots in the cartoon. After a while searching, I decided on the Rolls Royce Phantom I Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupé (from 1925...though to me it looks at least a decade ahead of its time in terms of design). I then discovered that somebody had made a digital concept for a modern/futuristic version II of this same car. I usually prefer the original cars to modern visions of them - but in this case, a futuristic version of the old design was perfect!
