Description Another of the few scribbles in my workbook that becomes a full-blown drawing.

Since current Bentleys aren't very inspired (the only good looking one currently made in my opinion being the Brooklands), and the new Mulsanne being plain ugly (whoever decided to give it the lazy-eye boss-eyed sidelights was a nutter and ruined it with that alone), I decided I'd draw my take on what I think a modern Bentley could look like. A bit like I reimagined a new Bugatti a while back.

This draws inspiration from when they looked good - most notably elements coming from the mark IV, V, VI and R-type from the 30s-50s. The 20s models are great too, but a bit harder designs to incorporate into a modern shaped body.
The main body was actually based on the new ugly Mulsanne, and then changed as I saw fit to make it look better (in my opinion anyway...)
The result is a mix of modern day car with lots of older design elements.
The front in my opinion is the major improvement - those horrible misplaced sidelights from the mulsanne have been put under the main headlights, slightly to the inside - reminiscnet of the old 20s and 30s models. The grille has been extended as to get a nice, big vertical grille, like all the old ones had. Though the bumer is in front of the grille, it does extend all the way to just above the bottom.
Thus, the new mulsanne's daft-looking 'beavis jaw grin' had been removed in favour of something that looks a little more elegant.

The back, which is probably better viewed from the side, was changed to resemble that of the MkIV/V/VI saloon/sedans; giving the roof and back a little more of an elegant classic look. The rear lights were swapped for round ones - just coz - and a couple of slight changes made to the doors and handles.

It's meant to be a good old dark british racing green of course, but my scanner was up to its tricks again and despite fiddling with colour and contrast etc on the PC I couldn't get the green to go darker without making the rest of the drawing look bad.

The name... well that was more what was logic than a proper choice. To call it the MkVII would be a little silly seeing how long ago the last one with that sort of name was. There was also the R-Type, the very-similar-looking successor to the MkVI - but calling this the R-Type MkII... I thought may be a little confusing with the Turbo R from the 80s/90s. All other names Bentley have used in not-so-old years are still used for cars today, or correspond to different classes of cars (such as the azure for the cabriolet roof model) ... except Arnage. Which was the 'large sized saloon'. So that sorted it - Arnage MkII.

Hope you like it, let me know what you think of my design.

Great design! It's far more better than the current one. It reminds me of current Rolls-Royce cars which s pretty cool, but it's style is more retro. Well done!

Thanks

Yeah, I realised the side view especially isn't too far off the Rolls, with respect to the window etc. Again, with rolls-royce I prefer the older models (Phantom III especially) hence the retro inspiration to this one... the hard bit was attemtping to not make it look like it came from the 50s/60s by still keeping some new bits to it lol

Cool!
Too bad about the scanner. I just love that British Racing Green color.
It's a good piece of work!

Thanks

I suppose it's not just the scanner, but the fact that I didn't do enough of a black under-colour first. I used the same pencils as when I did the drawing of my dad's Bentley and that one came out all right. Though to be honest I wasn't applying myself too much for this one. I really wanted to get the idea on paper but it ended up being a little rushed quality-wise seeing as I had a test the next day haha...
