Description
The wheels of the bus begin to turn,Another lesson we all must learn,
When you are called you have to go,
A Marine simply can't say no.
They'll chew you up and spit you out,
Stand tall while they scream and shout,
But when you're done with what they need,
Find your way back home to me.
The desert sun's hot on your face,
You can no longer distinguish days
From nights and nights from days,
It all is like an endless game.
Another week, another fight,
And you fight it with all your might
But when you win and they set you free,
Find your way back home to me.
I wrote all the words on the paper in pen,
On each and every letter that I neglected to send.
The words were things I couldn't say but you deserved to hear,
Things like, 'Dad, I'm proud of you' and 'I wish you were here',
Page upon discarded page lay crumpled on the floor,
Because the words I couldn't say somehow shook my core.
Simple things that I knew would somehow make your day,
But 'Find your way back home to me,' was all that I could say.
The gun's strapped to your shoulder and your vest covers your chest,
You close up as all soldiers do, and forget what you love best.
Forget the ones you loved and lost, you'll remember them later,
When it comes to love and war, emotion is a traitor.
Block out thoughts of those you miss, the thoughts of me and mine,
Except to know you're fighting for the ones you left behind.
Forget those simple, perfect times where you had nowhere to be,
When all this is over, find your way back home to me.
