Description The sun rose over the green hills, the trees swayed in the breeze and the birds danced and sung, blissfully living out their existence in irrational ecstasy. The grass was like a soft carpet below me, the very air my blanket, the soft touch of dew pulling me into consciousness. As I levered myself up, I noticed a flicker of red against the greenness of the meadow, and turned to regard a small, red squirrel playfully leaping and bounded around close to where I lay. Its mother, or so I assumed, sat on one of the wooden posts that marked the boundary of the field, watching her child in a carefree manner. I smiled and stood up, grasping the pack that I had used as a pillow, and set off towards the drooping boughs of the ancient trees, at the far end of the pasture. A beautiful, brown horse stared at me, dipped its head in a nod, and returned to the consuming task of eating its way through a large bundle of hay. I passed him, stepped over the rundown boundary fence, and into the forest. The towering trees reached for the sky, gently rocking in the zephyr, and I found comfort in the rustle of their leaves. There was a faint smell of an old fire on the air, as well as the invigorating scent of spring's new growth. A fox trotted in front of me, and I followed it for a while, before it noticed and darted off into the undergrowth. I found that I had come to a rather large clearing, with a dense screen of brambles. It was fairly dark, the broad leaves of the trees blocking out much of the light. I was completely lost, so absorbed in the disdainful walk of the fox to consider where I was going. I slung off my pack and sat down, trying to think of what to do. I stared at the bushes, thinking, when a shimmer of gold caught my eye. It was a bracelet of intricate workmanship, only a few feet from where I slumped. I stepped up for a closer look, and I guess it was about that time that I saw the body.
