I no longer have GIMP, but I used to use the lasso tool to 'cut'- which was basically erasing with the lasso.

this is extremely helpful!! Im very new to manipulations and i struggle with manes and tails! Actually i just tried doing this and i failed xP im going to have to try again, it was way better then my other manes and tails. I faved!!
