Natani is female, but she identifies as male. In the comic to save her she had to have a magic link to her brother's life force (orsomethinglikethat) and so she now feels and identifies as male. Plus the fact that if she wasn't male she would be killed, since the assassination clan she's in is male only XD

But Natani's a guy. He's trans. He may not have been "born that way," but he's certainly a guy now. I thought this was pretty clear in the comics. He's a gay transguy. So, yeah, that would put them in a gay relationship.

lately that's been confusing Natani cause getting in touch with female side of things... after all Natani is actually a female the missing part of her soul is filled by half her brothers which is what makes her think she's a guy. Β altho I don't know how Zen lives without all of his soul.

I hope I don't cause a riot, but it's hard to see Natani as male. Not because of the female parts, but the time she CLEARLY went into heat. As a female. Now, I'm no expert in polymorphization and its intricacies, but I can tell you this: To my knowledge, it's not that thorough. Even the illusion cast by the white dragon (sorry, forgot the name just now) was just that. An Illusion. A VERY well made one, but an illusion all the same. Why didn't he go into heat as well? because he wasn't actually female.Β
Natani either has a curse on her thats more powerful than a DRAGNS, or she is actually female and her head is all frazzled from the experience, and her brothers as well because of the link.
Just to clear the air, if anyone has read the book Poison Study, they'll understand where I'm coming from. In it, one of the characters is actually a woman, but plays the role of a man. (no spoilers) But he gives of the "presence" of a man so well, that I can't see him as anything else, even though I know the truth. Later in the series, to spy on other nations, he changes himself as a women ambassador. And I do mean changes, as he effectively shifts his whole "presence" to become female. When male I can't see him without a beard, and as a women, she has long hair. The books describe neither though.

It's like the James Bond movie "You Only Live Twice". Bond faked his death to the world and SPECTRE so he was thought of as "dead". Same thing with Natani and his gender. Almost everyone thinks of him as male so he's considered a guy in general.

The problem is, you are still thinking in binary, mutually exclusive male/female terms. Natani is a girl so she can't be a boy. Or vice versa.
I have not much experience with LGBT community, being a straight guy myself, but one of the things I really enjoy about Tom's webcomic is how he questions a lot of traditional and binary stereotypes. Natani is a very interesting (and really imaginative) example of a genderqueer character. Personally, I see Natani as a hacked girl (she has been flashed with a wrong version of firmware in one point of his life.)
Natani is a poor, confused wolf. He can't help her hormones dictating his behavior.
