I know Keidran have short life spans and mature faster than humans, but is eight years old a bit young to have a kid? Maeve truly looks like she's a small child but she's only two years younger than when her mom gave birth to her.

They have short life spans and very non-linear aging compared to humans.Β Maeve's current age would probably be comparable to 10 human years give or take a bit and between 6 and 8 years they have a major growth spurt. By that time their age would be comparable to late teens for humans. This one picture illustrates Keidran aging with Maeve specifically:
