She was born female, still has a female body but due to the magical connection to her brother thinks she's a guy as her brother believes he's a guy.Β She's had to pretend to be male as well but I don't think this qualifies as trans.Β Magically made to believe she's a guy when she's clearly not isn't her suddenly being a guy.Β Everyone has their own opinion though I'm just curious how she'd be if the years of thinking she's a guy due to the connection wore off in a way and she returned to how she thought and felt before the incident behind the need for the link to Zen

Either way my objection stems from the idea that because he's very pretty, he should realise he's a girl.
I'm cisgender so the following is pure speculation based on what I've observed with other people. (I also use the term queer because in my country it's the norm.)
Natani prefers male pronouns and has a complicated relationship with femininity, I'd call that genderqueer of some kind. It's possible that might change in the future but for now yeah, somewhere on that trans spectrum, just not necessarily binary trans.
Our society doesn't have magic, but gender is so complicated and formed when we're very young with a whole lot of different factors involved that we can't really say for sure that magic wouldn't have a role if it existed.
Plus not every trans person 'knew all along' that they were meant to be one gender or the other, some people were happy being one gender as a child and changed as they grew. Their understanding of their own gender evolves. In Natani's case he was never comfortable with being seen as a girl because of the cultural baggage assigned to him, that could be simply non-comforming or it could be something else.
As I recall he's only had that connection with Zen for a handful of years, as opposed to the years he's spent in a culture that devalues femininity. The recent dream with his younger self has determined that it's not entirely the connection with Zen that caused his gender issues, there is a lot more going on.
I think the story is gradually moving toward Natani accepting femininity as a good thing alongside masculinity, but I doubt he's gonna be entirely comfortable with binary gender even so. Maybe he'll be comfortable expressing all kinds of gender signifiers, maybe not have to bind his chest quite so much ect. But I doubt he's ever gonna be firmly in the 'girl camp' if that makes sense, more the 'somewhere in the middle' camp or 'visiting lots of different campsites.'
Gender is weird and complicated and I don't think Natani is ever gonna be in the cisgender camp, he's always gonna be some form of genderqueer because it's not just magic that's going on here.

I'm glad you think so, but again, I'm cisgender so a lot of this is just speculation. Non-binary and trans fans probably have more insight than I do, it's just how I interpret it.
There's no reason Natani can't be happy outside the gender binary.
