Description Twokinds Tutorials - Digitigrade Legs

Looking around Deviantart, I noticed that there weren't very many good, detailed guides on drawing characters with digitigrade legs, like those featured on my Keidran and Basitin races. Digitigrade, for those unaware, is a term for an animal that walks on their digits (toes) rather that flat-footed, as we humans do. This style of character design can be difficult for someone unused to this type of anatomical structure. Now, I am not claiming to be any sort of expert. But I have been drawing these guys for more than ten years now, and I often get asked how I draw certain things. So this is not necessarily a "how to draw" tutorial" as it is a "how I draw" tutorial, if you get my meaning.

I hope this information can prove useful for those of you who are aspiring artists, or at least interesting to those who wish to learn more about how I go about my drawing process. So without further adieu, please allow Flora to demonstrate for you how it works! Enjoy!

would you maybe do one that's identical to this but for plain human anatomy drawing. Coz I'd like to do some sketches of your characters but humanize them, such as the New Christmas picture you uploaded today of Kat drinking a hot chocolate by the window
It's just the feet I have the problem with

This will help me immensely for digitigrade drawing characters since I prefer that type for Anthro-type characters as opposed to the 'flat foot' style. >.<

This is extremely helpful!Β  This is similar to trying to draw some of the WoW characters that move digitigrade by default: tauren, worgen, dranei, all are up on their toes or hooves and thus their legs have that "not quite upright human" look to them.Β  Β

Great reference art here. It is very rare to find good ones, as far as I know. But this is really awesome. Thanks for sharing this. Lately, though I have been in favor of plantigrade anthros, in my drawing style for my hybrid character. But this would certainly help for a dragon like character I've been working on. I enjoy the humor you added in the art guide, it was really entertaining.

I was good at digitigrade before, but I've always had trouble with scale and proportion. It's because of that pesky little bend at the knee. I keep making the legs too long because I make all the angles too steep. I've gotten better recently (After reading you webcomic :3) and this will only help me improve. Once I get a print scanner to use I might actually link you a "What I learned from this" drawing.
