Description
A commision I've been asked to do with my favorite Combiner - Defensor!Happy to see that he's getting so much love with the new CW toy out now, but I just had to do the original G1 looking thing. I might, however, do a CW version of him down the road when I get ahold of the toy.

I tried to be true to the original as far as possible, I even did some research into the individual 'bots real world alt-modes so they would be somewhat true to the real thing as well - trying to keep them in scale as much s I could. Other than that the gallery at Seibertron is great for reference.

Yeah, you've done a good job. You're a man after my own heart, I like to do a lot of research too (time permitting). It's my design background haha. Scale is a difficult topic when it comes to Transformers... Haha.

Yeah, scale is a bit of a bother, haha. But at least it's possible to mess about with the protectobots and keep some sort of scale, it's not like they're the combaticons

Haaaa... yeah, the Combaticons. I mean, a shuttle... the same size as a military jeep???? I think the easiest, or more in-scale, teams would either be the Aerialbots or the Stunticons (amongst themselves atleast).

Yeah, the classic Combaticons are hilarious in that aspect. The new ones presented by Hasbro yesterday are a bit better in scale but a Tomcat fighter jet is still 4 times longer than a jeep.
The Aerialbots are quite to scale, yes. Everyone of the limbs are about 17-20 meters long and about the same with so that's not too off compared to Silverbolts Concorde alt-mode that's like 60 meters, especially since a lot of Silverbolt folds back onto his back when he's in torso mode.
The Stunticons are also a good fit for each other, but compared to their nemesi The Aerialbots and Superion they fall pretty short

Ah, that CW Bruticus. I'm unsure how I feel about it. Some parts of it are awesome but some other parts? Not so much. I think my biggest thing I've got against it is the colour. I really hope they tweak all the colours before the final release...

Well since Takara Groove will only be sold in a boxset I think he's going to go for a mad amount of money on eBay :/

I think I'll be ok if they don't release them individually. Like, I think I can do without a deluxe sized Groove (you know, because of the whole scale thing...) but for sakes of accuracy to the original character, I would like to have the Takara Groove too. Ideal world, I'll have both versions but if I can only get the legends Groove then I'll still be content ^^

I agree, the best would be to get both but I think that I'm more of a sucker for the IDW figure than the typicall G1 just because of the scale. I do love that we got a Slingshot for Superion though.

Yeah, I'm much the same. I have fond memories of the original G1 but.. I actually much prefer the modernised version as told by IDW now (though, it's not without it's faults).
I'm kinda sick of the Alpha Bravo mould hahahah Definitely glad to see an official Slingshot!
