EDIT:So I finally figured out names officially.
Her name is Izayoi, and her son's name is Seishirou. And a few things were tweaked in her story.

So this is my Crane Empress (and yes she is based off of a Japanese Crane), and here's a few facts about her:

- She is the current ruler of her people, and is considered to be a benevolent one, in fact. She's very motherly and just, and cares deeply for her people. However, there have been multiple attempts on her life in the past by power hungry rouges and others who have it out for her.

- She is tall. VERY tall. She is about 6'1, and is mostly legs. She is also very lithe, and very graceful when she walks, but is also very quick on her feet when need be.

- She was married at the age of 17, and had her son, Seishirou, not long after. However, her husband was killed while protecting her and their infant son during an assassination attempt on the whole royal family. She still has a scar from the whole ordeal.

- Her son, Seishirou, is now 16 and is fully capable of taking care of himself and is quite gifted with the sword and archery. But Izayoi is still extremely protective of him and often does not let him out on his own (or at all if she can help it). However, she will usually arrange for him have a chaperone with him when he wishes to wander about in the kingdom.

- Despite her fragile and rather docile appearance, she is a fairly capable fighter. She often keeps small throwing knives within the sleeves of her robes, and has impeccable aim, and is also quite skilled with a katana as well. However her handmaidens often fret and implore her to not carry such things, saying it is "not appropriate" for a woman of her status to do so. But she refuses to stand idly by and play the part of the "vulnerable and helpless" royal.

- She has the ability to turn into a crane, though she does not do this often, but instead opts for sprouting just her feathers and or wings when she wants to stretch them out.

- She only wants what is best for both her son, and her people. However, she often worries over her son the most and only wants to keep him safe, but also wants him to be happy. She is aware he does not like being cooped up in the palace all the time, thus is trying (albeit slowly) to allow him more freedom (though he still has a chaperone watching him lol).

- She cannot bring herself to love again. Though her marriage to her late husband was arranged, she truly did love him, as did he in return. So in the end, his death devastated her, and she still mourns him. But she is also afraid to love another man because she would be afraid to lose them as well, and she also fears that being in another romantic relationship would distract her from her duties to her people and her son.

- Her son often frets over his mother in return, and sometimes wishes she will find another who will also make her happy, so she won't have to worry so much.

- She married into royalty. She was actually the youngest (and only) daughter of a wealthy noble family. Her father, and her late husband's father were good friends and had arranged their marriage before Izayoi was born, believing it would unite their families and also be a good match. When Izayoi took over as the sole ruler after her husband's passing, many did not agree with the kingdom being primarily ruled by a matriarch, and thus has had many attempts on her life in the past. (However, Izayoi is always prepared if such an attempt were to occur again in the future).

- Her and her son's feathers (or any Japanese crane) are considered to be of very high value in the normal market, and black market, since they can be used to make the finest of silk if weaved into the fabric. This is mainly because Japanese crane feathers are considered to be of higher quality in comparison to others when making such materials. However, this can only be done if the feathers are given willingly, or forcefully plucked (which are the ones that are normal sold on the black market). This is normally why Izayoi stays in her humanoid form most of the time.

- She loves and cares for all her subjects and will personally meet with those who wish to speak to/see her. But she's always prepared if things were to go south.
