Ayla was born into a working-class family in a small town in Warron. Both her parents worked as tailors, and despite the fact they were not wealthy, were able to send Ayla and her twin brother Sol to the local Church school. They were both taught the tailor’s craft. At the age of fourteen, Sol discovered he had mage-talent. He told no-one but Ayla, as any magic outside of proscribed Church teachings were highly illegal. Unfortunately, Sol was found out and blamed for a sickness going around at the time. They were attacked on their way home from school, and Sol was murdered at the hands of the mob; Ayla was left to die, and nearly succumbed to her injuries. After her recovery, she became a pariah in the community; it was feared that she was a witch. After about a month of this, she met a man who knew, and was willing to tell, who had outed her brother; it had been a travelling priest with the ability to sense those with mage-talent. The strange man offered to help her take her vengeance on the priest, and to teach her how to spy and to kill with no one the wiser. With nothing left for her in her hometown, she accepted his offer and went with him to the capital city. Eventually she had her revenge, and has now gained infamy as an elusive, expensive spy and assassin. No one knows whom she is, and she has come to be known only as “Belladonna”.
