Dum-dum
I'm a big fan from John Carpenter's The Thing from 1982 www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ftmr1…
Now this year came the "new" The Thing 2011, and should be a prequel from John Carpenter's original. But (Warning Spoileralarm) if you look at some scenes, they are very similar to the original. So the movie looks in the same time like a remake.
But it isn't a bad movie. With some grim and dark atmosphere and some scary monsters you wouldn't waste your time with that, that's my opinion.

This thing looks amazing!
I love that it is almost all black.
I am currently writing a horror story with a Bio-Weapon main character - this thing looks very much like I envisioned him in his monster form! Very cool!

Your Thing sort of reminds me of William Birkin. Not thats a bad thing, as they both creep me out. I also think the first movie ws better as you never really saw the Thing until the end.

I just watched the new film a month ago, it's actually a prequel. Yeah, the critics bashed it already. But in my opinion, it gave me closure to some things [no pun intended] about the "Sequel" [the original film]. Some questions were answered, while some weren't. At least they made the effort of mixing the CGI with some animatronics, as the Director said [was it? I don't remember], its 50 percent CGI and 50 percent Animatronics.
8.5/10
It's good for a scare. But don't expect anything groundbreaking.

Dum.

Watched the classic back in the day. Favorite scene has always been the gut ate the doc's hands.
It was pretty smart that in the prequel they used a different way to spot the alien. I was expecting the blood test again.

Ah, The Thing. No movie has ever demonstrated the effectiveness of paranoia quite like it. Also, no other movie has ever made me stay up until sunrise.

I agree. The prequel is more an homage to the original done by a really devote fan director.

I like it, you can fear the paranoia and the dark, sinister attitude of the thing.
Also good use of colours.

Like with the most newer movies, it hasn't the same great WOW-Effect like John Carpenters original.
But all in all it is a good movie and you wouldn't waste your money or time if you watch that.

Too afraid myself. Kept hearing that the average person will like it, but the average fan of the original will cry blood at what has been done to a beloved classic. ):

Occasionally I get into the 'bloody gore fest' mood where a good monster flick perks me up, I shall digi-record it and save it for a stormy night >:3
