Very nice design, I'm more partial to the solid peening rivets myself. what did you use to cut that thick sheet metal with? Beverly shears!?

Thanks!
As to cheating with pop rivets:
1. basically I am lazy!
2. not concerned with historic accuracy
3. I never fight with rattan and thus don't need the strenght of a peened rivet
so the speed and ease of a pop rivet makes them a better choice for me. If you look at my full set of armor, the helm on that one was done with peened over rivets I made out of roofing nails and it was such a pain in the butt I said never again.
I checked out your gallery and your Hide emotion masks are things of great beauty. The concept of the armor we wear emotionally is part of my fascination for armor itself. I did a cheesy version of such a mask myself that I have yet to post but yours makes mine look like crap in comparison. As one guy who beats on steel to another, touche.
Also, are your figurines your designs or are you lost wax casting plastic ones? Either way they are too cool, but if they are your originals, again, touche. I need to get a kiln and centrifuge dammit!
Anyway, impressive work, and good to see others working in a variety of media.

Aye, those little figurines are just plastic models cast using lost wax method. They were done at school so I don't have a kiln or centrifuge myself, but they'd sure be grand to have

I will have to post some of my figurines, they are not as spiffy as lost wax cast stuff but they are kinda cool.

This is really neat! It looks like you used tubing for the rivets, yes? I would like to do something like this but for Athena's helmet. I've been wating to do a life size thing of her aegis (breastplate) for a while but for now settled on a pendant version that's still in progess. Sorry... got off track.
What kind of metal did you use on this?

The rivets are just "pop" rivets, a compression style of rivet, not historically accurate of course, but I don't really care about that, I am into my own thing and not historic accuracy. The metal is 16 guage cold rolled steel. Good luck on your breastplate project!

Oh, I've never even heard of those! The only rivets I've ever done were very simple with brass and copper wire lol. I also like that hole pattern on the lower part of your helmet. It makes is more visually appealing. Have you done more work with metal?
You collages and other work is neato, btw.

Pop rivets are awesome! They are a hollow thingie that has a steel pin inside of it. You have a rivet setter that you need that pulls that pin until it spreads the hollow of the rivet out and joins the two pieces of metal (or ?)then the metal pin breaks free (the pop part of pop rivet) and there you are. You don't need to hammer them flat like you do with a "real" rivet.
I have done some metal work, other armor, some art stuff, I made rings I wear out of my dads dental gold after he passed away, and quite a few miniature figurines. So I know what soldering can be like anyway. I don't have photos of a lot of that yet so they are not posted. And thanks for checking out my other work, and again, just for responding. It seems like a lot of things here get limited to just "cool" and then "thanks" so it is nice to actually share ideas and information with someone for a change.

nice piece, love the design.
but won't the rivets hurt when you wear it?

First you design a pattern, then you take a sheet of steel and cut your pattern out. Then you pound on the cut out pieces until they are formed the way you want. Then rivet the pieces together. Sounds easy.

Well, that was a bit of sarcasm. I had no appreciation for armoring or how resistant the medium of metal actually is until I actually tried it. Just like music...or art...or....?
