-STORYLINE-

1954
The United States and the Soviet Union began competing in full about their nuclear capabilities. The Cold War was slowly starting to change as conventional means of warfare were now evolving with terrifying results. On top of that, the exiled French colony of Indochina saw the writing on the wall when the Viet Minh, led by Ho Chi Minh, managed to win after 6 six years of war. Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam were finally granted indipendence while Vietnam was split in two until a referendum would decide which government do the Vietnamese want to have. The communist North Vietnam, led by Ho Chi Minh? Or the monarchic South Vietnam, ruled by Emperor Bao Dai. However, the CIA feared that the communists would win so with that in mind, they helped Prime Minister Ngo Dihn Diem, a far-right authoritarian, to coup the government the following year, proclaim himself as president and then establish South Vietnam as the true Vietnam. To Ho Chi Minh, this was a declaration of war... And war it was.

1955
The war in Vietnam between the South-Vietnamese and North-Vietnamese Communist forces begins. The United States pledges his support for the South while the USSR and China obviously give their support to the Vietcongs, the former Viet Minh.

1956
The Hungarian Revolution occurs. The Soviet Armed Forces are sent in with their tanks to quell the rebellion in blood. The would lead to the first signs of the Sino/Soviet Split to which there were already as Mao admired Stalin more that Kruschev.

1957
Dwight. D. Eisenhower is re-elected president for 2nd time. However, the Soviet Union would steal the spotlight as they would launch into space the Sputnik 1, the first artificial satellite to orbit the earth. The Space race has now begun.

1958
General Vasilij Tatarin is born in the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic. In the future, he is destined to bigger things when it comes to the Soviet Military as a whole. Meanwhile, in Cuba, on the last day of the year, Dictator Fulgencio Batista flees the country as the Communists led by Fidel Castro and Ernesto "Che" Guevara managed to finally end the dispotic, Fascist rule of Batista. This would be important later, as the 60s would prove to be a very significant moment in time for the world.
