Description
The winning suggestion for our last UWRIC is here and reads as follow: "Mm, it might be fun to see you pick out a few OCs or other characters you've always liked, have them in a little line-up of fun gags or bonds?"It's the first time someone asked me for my opinion on girls and I had to think long and hard about it. Needless to say I surprised myself by the nature of the common aspects that the girls I tend to gravitate towards share. I suppose I tend to like strong, complex and inspiring female characters. It also seems that the girls that tend to stick with me are, for various reasons, not that commonly depicted in general media or fanart. Eventually I settled for these four girls. From left to right they are:
Alita (Battle Angel Alita): One of the first manga I ever read, the original story of Alita is an epic that holds up extremely well even today. Both the Berserker and the Imaginos body did their part in inspiring and reinforcing the way I think about sci-fi and technology. While Last Order and Mars Chronicle did expand on the universe and are good in their own rights, I still keep coming back to the original series and that will always embody the essence of Alita for me.
Rally Vincent (Gunsmith cats): It's my nostalgia acting up again. Rally has a special place in my youth and it would be safe to say that this manga did kindle my interest in both cars, guns and girls. I enjoy the character for both her skill and capabilites as well as her pleasant personality.
Yamada Kaoru (Virgin's Empire): An unstoppable force, unreachable beauty and unmatched presence, with a personality that is both fickle yet obsessive. All in all, Kaoru is one of the most intimidating and powerful girls I have ever seen. When this girl sets her mind to something she just does not lose and even if she does she'll keep on coming until she eventually does conquer. That alone would earn her a spot in this picture.
Tomie (Tomie): Much like Kaouru she is tremendously frightening albeit in a whole other way. Tomie embodies the essence of femininity and beauty, or rather our collective fear about the same. As beautiful as she is monstrous, she also represents the unknown and the primal existential dread so ingrained and communal among us. You cannot help being awed by her sheer perseverance and horrifying nature.
Thank you for letting me do this, very clever of you to tickle my inspiration like this.
Now there are several very interesting girls that would have been almost equally at home in this picture but I had to make a cutoff somewhere. Perhaps I'll revisit this some day.

I guess I'm kinda the same. I read some western comics growing up but it wasn't until later that I discovered manga and really got into the medium. Though when I did, I went hard since is was unlike anything I'd seen before.

Kids today are spoiled by anime and manga sites as well as online shopping. Back in my day we had to commission Gutenberg to print our manga and it was uphill both ways to Germany.
No I'm kidding, I'm not that old.

Can't say I've heard of the last two. Alita was pretty interesting as a series, though I dropped it fairly early since when it was out originally my attention span was roughly 45 seconds due to mental issues (Says something good about it that I got through at least a third of it huh?). Gunsmith Cats was a little easier for me since Dagwood collected the comics, so I always had them around to poke at. Rally was always a fun character... their crossover with Riding Bean was especially worthy of a few laughs as she tried to figure out how to act around that weirdo!

Alita did have a movie come out not too long ago. It's a good watch if you want to get into the universe again even though I still think the manga is better. And yeah GSC is always a fun read, Bean is great fun and complements the others very well.
Also if I were to reccommend one of the other two series it would be Tomie, well unless excessive body horror makes you squeamish.

Eh, the character model for Alita gives me headaches. I get they were trying to preserve her 'manga' look but the fact they only did it for her makes my head throb trying to fit her in. It's the same thing that prevents me from using VR.
Psh. I've watched my own surgeries... live. I think art of weird stuff is manageable. Hell my favorite artist is H.R. Geiger.

Well look at it from the bright side, at least it wasn't Timothy.

Man, that's awesome seeing Rally appear. GSC had a fantastically fun style and attitude. Don't see that enough these days!
I'm glad you got to have some fun with this, and here's hoping more fun can be had in the future!

The GSC style is a bit hard to emulate but I at least tried to get close. You are also right about the attitude, it felt very fresh when I first read it as a young youngling. I reread the manga every once in a while and it still holds up even now.
Once again thank you for your contribution, I wouldn't put it past myself to make something like this again.

I'm really glad you got to have some fun with it. It's not always easy to find the excuse, so here's hoping it can slip in between all the other projects and keep bringing you some nice variety between other works!
