Description Edit: If this doesnt help you then don't pin me down for it! I dont think im the best at drawing hands but this is tips meant for people who have a lot of trouble with hands and this is just showing them ways they can help improve! I really can NOT believe the bullshit I'm recieving for some of this! D| Just cause it doesnt help you it doesnt mean others aren't learning from this.
I dont think i'll be making anything else like this now.
i'll deal with it though. THanks for all your 'thanks' guys -3-
/edit

A bit wordy XD But still I hope its helpful to those who struggle with hands. I myself struggle to draw hands most of the time too but these are just some basic tips to improving problems you may be having when it comes to hands.

I might do some more. If theres anything else you have a hard time with then I guess tell me >__O

This is good thing to learn. I often see gross misproportions with anatomy on Deviant Art, and this will help a lot of people.
I learned how to draw hands through observing my own hands and studying manga.
I'd like to say that I already know how to draw hands, but since I'm not a professionally taught artist, even I can still learn from this. Single greatest thing on Deviant Art.....? Perhaps.

ZOMG, thank you soooooooo much for doing this. I can't tell you how much it really has helped me!

CLAMP is a good example of nice hand drawings. Hmmm...time to go horde Chobits again...maybe I'll grab Neon Genesis Evangelion as well, while I'm at it...

What's funny is that all of this is common knowledge and common sense. Or at least it should be.

Still, I think the best part of that whole tutorial was the faces.

You said you'd consider making another tutorial so I thought I'd ask: Think you'd ever make a tutorial on female anatomy? I've kind of gotten to the point of fearing anything female due to my lacking skills when it comes to drawing one.

This is very helpful. Learning what bones are where help as well as drawing the actual skeletal hand. I've had a hand issue forever and a half, and I'm still trying to work my way through it.

Now, how about some feet, eh? eh? Yeah?

Oh no... my fingers look like chibi sausages. I guess I shouldn't draw my own hand then, huh?

I'm doooomed. I'll never draw right with chibi fingers, will I? Oh no Oh no!

It's a really big help though. I can't draw a hand to save my life.

If someone had hands like the forst pic... and they poked someone, they better hope that person isn't a hemopheliac lest they bleed to death X3 I've had my fingers shoved in a sharpener before.... yeah it hurts.... bad... and there's a surprising amount of blood too, I never knew I had so much blood in my fingers. (I was 5, I didn't know blood actually FLOWED threw your body, much less how... I thought I was going to bleed to death)

OFCOURSE NONE OF THIS APPLIES TO CHEEBS(super deformed) RITE? xD;; I do some of those bad things when I draw chibis with no wrists most of the time.

This is a great tutorial. Its good to have someone tell me that references are ok. When I've been told about those from other people they make it seem like references are super bad "DON'T DO IT" sort of thing. But I just started drawing these past few months and I feel like drawing wacky poses and I can never get it down on paper. n-n; Guess it's just about practice. And this hand tut helps out with about 10% of my anatomy/pose troubles, so thanks. But feet..they're another matter.

Uberzers In reply to Screw-You-Narutard [2007-05-03 00:14:15 +0000 UTC]

xD well if theyre saying its bad to use references for a pose thats probably cause poses arent easy to come up with sometimes so i dont blame them if they dont want people copying their ideas e__e i get the feeling that one day we're all gonna run out of completely different poses and then people will start ripping heads off XD
But for hands i think its different xD theres only so many ways you can draw the thumbs up gesture ya know

THANK YOU!!!! You're like an angel sent from heaven to help me with my hands!>< I struggle with hands. I always try to hide them behind my characters back. sometimes, if the picture is really good, i'm forced to work hard on the hands, and they come out really good, w/ the help of my art teacher. but when it's just a pretty picture i work, like, 10-20 mins on, i HATE drawing the hands. this tutorial should do wonders. again, THANK YOU!

Really nice and all, but I want to point out, thumbs aren't excluded, when you look at the human anatomy you see that the thumbs also have three joints.

the only part of the hand I fail miserably is the thumb altho .. .. ... anyhows, nice tut!

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Uberzers In reply to n00b-wing [2007-05-02 23:39:39 +0000 UTC]

even if thats so we dont want people drawing a thumb where it bends into three parts like a finger xD

Is that the joint that some people can pop out and do the hitch hikers thumb with? It's like in your palm right? something like that right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

n00b-wing In reply to DarkHalo4321 [2007-05-03 16:44:24 +0000 UTC]

Ye, the third joint is in your palm
The space between the start of the second joint and your finger is just an intergrowth of flesh

Normally I don't comment on pieces with this much publicity, but I have to express my thanks for this! You find a lot of bad tutorials on here (I should know, I made a bad coloring one a while back >.>; ) especially on hands! but this is rather good, even if it's a tips and not a flat out tutorial. These are tips that a lot of us forget, especially the existance of wrists or making the palms gigantic.
Once again, thank you for making this!

That tutorial was SO sweet, I kept smiling all the way. You have a great, friendly way of teaching, not haughty at all. Even though you're making fun of people drawing hands in the wrong way, there's nothing unkind to it, it's harmless and funny. Great job!

KitsuneNeko In reply to ??? [2007-05-02 20:11:46 +0000 UTC]

Awesome! : D Most helpful as your ideas a critics make me giggle. As for feet... um... I just like how NOW has their feet drawn. It looks weird but not many manga out there show bare feet or how to draw feet in general and how they should appear... including 3-D style. : x The best I've seen still haven't helped me.

Oh and those art books with circles and stuff to explain things give me a headache. I don't like to use bubbles to make a character; how do you feel about art books?
