Finally! I've been trying to comment on this piece since you put it up but I couldn't find you again after the first time I saw it. The combination of clear, tight images mixed with the loose flowing color really bring life to the piece. This was the image that made me decide to become a deviant! I'm glad I got to see it again.

Hope that wasn't too creepy.

no it wasn't! i can't believe the response i've gotten on this one. it was something i did in my sketchbook. it was an experiment. but i put a lot in it. i don't know how to explain it.

Captain-Maberu In reply to ucalegon [2006-03-16 03:32:44 +0000 UTC]

Ahh...

Sometimes eperiments can create a whole life of their own. My difficulty seems to occur when I try to duplicate the experiment. I usually get different results than what I planned. It's not a science, though is it.

ucalegon In reply to Captain-Maberu [2006-03-16 03:55:48 +0000 UTC]

nope. its not a science (thank heavens!) - and trying to duplicate experiments is good. sometimes, you stumble upon something you don't expect and that can be a pleasant surprise (or you mess everything up, which can be frustrating).

Captain-Maberu In reply to ucalegon [2006-03-16 05:05:47 +0000 UTC]

I heard that all science begins as theory and ends as art. Even so, science, or a thing which can be duplicated exactly, seems to have so much less excitement than the unexpected, accidental triumph.

I think I used too many commas there.

ucalegon In reply to Captain-Maberu [2006-03-16 08:27:21 +0000 UTC]

hahaha
commas aside, i end up making the same kind of thing sometimes. i wouldn't call that duplication though. so i didn't use any commas either.

that moment of realisation, perhaps disappointment.

told through delicate lines, contrasted by harsher hatchings and greys.
that's a beautiful neck you've drawn under the very nice wet splash and quite lovely tones.

I dig your use of positive and negative, also how it connects the entire image.

its more like realization and disappointment all rolled into one. are you always so articulate? words don't come as easily to me.

the-wanderer In reply to ucalegon [2006-02-26 21:35:25 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes I grunt, groan and use sign language.
But that becomes incredibly difficult to type, so I resort to articulating thoughts.

Then there are days when everything I write turn into mumbling, so I avoid typing anything and just look at things and go "oohhh!" and "aahh!"

ucalegon In reply to the-wanderer [2006-02-27 21:09:41 +0000 UTC]

good decision. i usually stop after the grunt, groan and sign language and then i just look bewildered...i suppose that helps people understand that i don't know what to say.
meeting people in a "small talk" environment does funny things, don't you agree? i just end up making a lot of talk...small and big and supersize.

the-wanderer In reply to ucalegon [2006-02-28 01:55:34 +0000 UTC]

It does indeed, often I don't know what to say, so I sit back and observe.
Making a lot of talk is a better way of surviving and maintaining your sanity.
I appreciated your company and conversation, I feel there's a lot more that we can talk about and that we just scratched the surface. Our random discussion made me forget my cramps, when I got back home I just lay in bed moaning till I fell asleep.

cramps are horrid. they make me throw up. i don't mind throwing up but it does have its unpleasant aspects. i hope you're better now.

reading some of the other comments that say the picture is an analysis of men's thoughts, i thought that it sort of made sense seeing how a lot of males think about sex and the female body a lot.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ucalegon In reply to icantthinkofanything [2006-02-28 19:44:53 +0000 UTC]

but it isn't really. its more my thoughts and i'm not a man. my body and mind are the same. i cannot separate one from the other.
this drawing is about realization...and dejection.

agh! boobies...

I like how the shadows outline the shape of the bottom right/middle head. not the skull, the one to the right-ish of it.

there's nothing wrong really. it's just the whole nudity thing which, although i have no problem with, i am somewhat uncomfortable with since my parents are rather traditional and i am still a minor.

that figure on the left upper hand corner is beautifully articulated and colored. can you give us a description of your motivations for this piece? the arrow and the letters just seem confusing and out of place without an explanation. i also have to agree that the black/white that cuts through the middle is too distracting and does little to solidify the piece. i think it's the sharp, geometric lines that bother me. again, gorgeous figures/proportioning.

ucalegon In reply to stymied [2006-02-24 20:11:22 +0000 UTC]

the motivation for this one came from the dmb song oh. it reminds me of somebody i cannot get out of my head. but i didn't really think about all that when i made it. i was just listening to the song and "experimenting" with paper and color. its a message.
