Great shot Udo - the stark symmetry always draws the eye - but the heart still grieves for the loss of life, here, in that war... and in all other wars since..... WWI (I know this was part of WWII) was "the war to end all wars".... so why was it not???

Because mankind is not really able to learn for history. If we would be, there wouldn't be leader like Trumph, Putin, Erdogan and the crazy Korean. ( this list can be easily continued Β  )

Excellence...my grandfather landed there on DDay. One of the lucky ones to come home alive.

Thank you, if he was in the first wave he was really a lucky man

I know...so many killed during that war. It really should have been the war to end all wars but humans being instinctively violent, I don't think peace on earth is going to happen any time soon. I'm not sure if he was in the first wave. He's passed on now so I can't even ask him. Is this a military cemetery? If so, who's soldiers are buried there?

Coleville sur Mer is the greatest US war cemetery in Europe. Around are plenty of others from British, French, German and all the other soldiers fought in that struggle of Normandie landing. Some 200km east you will find the same for WW I abound the former battle lines around the river Somme. In the Northwest of France hundred-thousands of grave from WW I and WW II.

I can only imagine. So nice to seem them honored this way. Such well kept grounds and immaculate crosses. Seeing this should give pause to anyone considering "fire and fury" but those sort of people are too blind to see beyond their basic needs. Thanks for the info Udo and the wonderful tribute to those fallen heroes of yesteryear.

Hard to imagine for us, growing up in peace her in Europe. The French take care very much of all the sides, no matter if Germans or Allied soldiers.Β
