Akuma isn't a bad guy, per se. He's got his own warped sense of honour. In his mind, he killed his sensei and brother in fair duels; it wasn't outright murder. There are official artworks of him doing assorted "heroic" things such as him saving a child. Furthermore, if the world were hit by that meteor, evil or not, wouldn't Akuma be destroyed, or at least affected by its impact?
