Rather than using Flashes export option I tried out some third party swf to gif conversion apps. I made these ones using 'Magic Swf2Gif' which I especially like as it allows me to create gifs from Flash files with scripted animation or hierarchies of Movie Clips....something that is not possible with the Flash gif exporter as far as I know.

Yeah there are some which convert to AVI but I didn't try any of them out so can't recommend particular app.
