I spent a few days last week with a high fever. During that time I spent most of the time playing Gauntlet: Dark Legacy. It's an old game, but still one of my favorites.
The forest realm in that game is not one of my favorites to actually play through since the levels are long and difficult... but they are one of my favorites to look at. I particularly like the Acid Swamp level, since the mix between Mayan and Polynesian decor is visually interesting.
That's where this gal comes in. The lizardmen generals in the game wear helmets that look like Triceratops skulls. It reminded me that I've never actually attempted to draw a triceratops before.
She is clothed in the skins of the animals she hunts and wears sacred mud as tribal warpaint. She defends the ancient ruins of the forest floor.

You've captured the feel very well here. The round face in the background is very Aztec, and you do a mean triceratops, for somebody whose never done one before.

No, they definately don't make them like they used to. I'm still hoping that one day they'll make another Gauntlet game that is just as awesome as Dark Legacy! The replay value on that game is like no other game I've ever played. I still find myself picking it up and playing it every year and a half or so.

I haven't played any of the new ones, so I can't say anything about those. >_>
But Dark Legacy... I think I could play those levels (Particularly the Castle and Desert Realms) through 100 times and never get bored.
The sky realm is the exception. Surprisingly, the Sky Dominion is the only part of the game that I cannot stand. The levels are long, boring, painful to look at... and why the hell are you fighting toxic blobs of green goo on sky pirate ships made of rotting wood! :/
I had the idea that the Sky Dominion should have been like a Chinese Temple of Heaven. It would have been much better then the way it is now.

You really aren't missing anything. They just got worse and worse over time. Dark Legacy is the best! My opinion, anyway.
I didn't mind it so much. Then again, it's not like I particularly noticed it. I tend to turn a blind eye to the plot of Gauntlet. It's really only one step above non-existent. I particularly like the Field realm though. Not sure why. I think it's just cause I dig the whole medieval town that's hopelessly shafted theme. Side-effect of D&D, I guess.
Also, that would be pretty awesome. Chinese styling and mythology are absolutely fascinating! I've always wanted to see the the Forbidden City.

Field realm? I assume you're referring to the forsaken provence? Haha! My Canadian husband refers to that realm as "NewFoundland". Canuck humor, I guess. >_<
The Forsaken Provence is pretty cool. The mauseleum is definately my favorite part of it.
The reason why I hate the sky realm so much is that the levels are long and you're basically looking at the same depressing looking sky pirate ships with holes in them throughout three of the four levels that never seem to end!
If the levels at least looked pretty, I wouldn't mind them so much. The desert realm is long and difficult sure (those damn mummies!), but its Egypt theme is very nice looking and the levels are so varied. It's easily one of my favorites to play through!
Not to mention the music is nice there.

I'll give you that one readily. Sky level sucked, ice level sucked. I don't like snow, and that one just seemed really repetitive and I get lost easily ; ; Oh, the Desert <3 Very well done! Seriously, Egyptian themed things are just wonderful. Have you ever tried doing a piece like that? I only ask cause you just did a jungle one. You do those more often than not, I've noticed. Not that I blame you. Jungles are probably where I'm at home the most. I like the jungle levels, especially the boss, but those were really long too. Being up on the tree though was awesome.

I did do a picture of Sekhmet not that long ago, but I ended up going waaay off tract of the egyptian theme and giving her more oddball clothing. >_>
I also have a character who is sort of a female Anubis, but I rarely draw her. Last time I drew her was probably back in 2007... I really should do an updated picture.
Other then that... a few Egypt themed pictures back in my earlier years.
I've acually done more Mesoamerican themed pictures then Egyptian themed, since I studied Mesoamerican culture for two years back in college and would often doodle werejaguars and quetzalcoatls in my notebooks while listening to the lectures. LOL.
It's a shame, really since Egyptian mythologies are among my favorites. I should try drawing more Egypt.
But yah. Feel free to use the NewFoundland joke. I always find myself using it anyways.

Oh, TOTALLY! I'm a huge fan of Mesoamerican cultures, particularly the Aztecs. They're just so cool. And, for the record, Naguals are some of my favorite critters EVER.
You know, go for it. You're an incredibly talented artist with a knack for conceptual work. I highly doubt it will be anything of a problem.

Mud comes in different colors, probably due to different minerals and what not in the mud itself. Not all of it is that stereotypical putrid mud brown... in my parent's area, there used to be some lovely red mud that I would play in as a kid.

Well I'll be damned... I've never seen anything like that. It must be because I'm stuck in England all my life! There is clearly so much scope for geological variation like you pointed out. I've learned something new today.

It's actually something that I learned about in my ceramics classes in college. We actually had several lectures just on dirt, mud and clay.
Clay, like mud comes in different colors and I've worked with everything from cheap red clay to a really light white kaolin clay. It's amazing because there's not only a big difference with colors between the clays, but certain clays are easier to work with then others... I've never personally worked with porcalain, but I've heard my classmates swearing at it. LOL.
I'm no geoloist, but I've learned a thing or two in my day.

It's been a few years since I picked it up, but I'm trying to continue my quest of getting all characters to level 99.
The archer is by far my favorite class in the game... though right now I'm leveling up the Unicorn. Just got done with the sky realm... words cannot describe how much I hate the sky realm in that game. :/
