Well I couldnt resist it any more, the dark side drew me in.It turned out ok, but the scanner has just made it look crappy...

I always have trouble with highlights. I can never make something look shiny - like vader's helmet - that's one thing I can honestly say I admire.

well, I just leave the paper free of graphite for the highlights

Great work on the shading! I always have problems with such dark areas, but what you did here is really good.

What kinda problems do you encounter?

for starters uneven shading... the fact that one can see way too many pencil strokes in an area that's supposed to be uniform... guess I should be more patient and apply the graphite lightly and in many layers, but a single uniform black area tends to wear out my patience
second important thing is about the thin white lines drowning in the midst of heavy black pools (can't do hair without encountering those heh)... everyone seems to achieve rather good results using the kneaded erasers, but I still didn't get one (just goes to show what an amateur I am lol) so I try to avoid the future white area during the entire process, which in case of sometimes-quite-singular hair strands tends to give rather weird results...
you would be a good psychiatrist you know... I just laid out my problems and also realized how to solve them
of course, if you have any advice about these darkies beside this little rant of mine, I'd be glad to hear it

have you tied fiddling about with the brightness/contrast in photoshop? i use it to bring my pencil work up to pure black line work.
