I made the Hero of Kvatch a dunmer for a reason. I think it’s stupid to make all the main characters humans  when there are so many other races. I then had to take the relationship with Martin into account. An altmer would be too tall and they are kind of prissy. Besides, there are already two important altmer mages in the main quest: Ocato and Cameron. There was no way I was going to make her an orc or argonian. Sorry but no. (I do want to play an buff orc female if the next game is in High Rock though.) Making her a khajiit would make it a bit... furryish. I would consider a wood elf but these days I like to emphasize their racially specific traits, one of them being hight. I like to make them look like mischievous pixies. However, I want my hero to be in contrast to Martin. He is gentle and meek, prefering to read books. My hero does the dirty work. She’s cold and viciously efficient. She was a Dark Brotherhood assassin before she fled and got arrested. If Martin towered over her as a wood elf, it would detract from that contrast. Therefore, the final remaining option was also the most ideal. The Dunmer’s sinister looking appearance, cursed history and unfriendly demeanor fit the character perfectly. + Dunmer have potential to not look ugly (sorry). There are also some lore details that add to this appropriate match. Fire resistance is of course handy in Mehrunes plain of Oblivion. More importantly and on a more fanfictiony note, the founder of the Septim Dynasty, Tiber Septim, famously impregnated the dunmer queen Barenziah and then made her abort it. My idea was that Martin would concieve a child with the Dunmer hero after the defense of Bruma, and the child (great grandparent of the dragonborn) would be born. Thus, the dynasty would come around full circle, with the sin of the first Septim being in a way undone by the last Septim.

The only flaw with the Hero being a dark elf, (and a big one too) is that the Nerevarine is already most likely to be a dunmer too. So, you have two Dunmer in a row when there are only six single game heroes (Including Cyprus from Redguard) to be spread around 10 races. Ah well, I overthink too much. You may say, “But UltimateEmpress. You know the HOK is “most likely to be” that male imperial knight on the cover.” Well, I have a theory. That guy in dragon armour? That’s Martin Septim. Ja I know there are flaws in that theory but sucks to you!

Your explanation on your choice for the CoC's race is pretty interesting and theory on the Imperial dude that appears on the game's box art and marketing material being Martin seems plausible to me. Admittedly, I now feel a little awkward as my main CoC for most of the playthroughs I've done in Oblivion have been a female Dunmer albeit with red hair just being an aspiring painter before getting thrown in the slammer. It's very coincidental but still. Then Skyrim, my main playthrough was a female Dunmer again(and you guessed it, a redhead again) and when thinking about how they're related I just chalked it up to:"CoC is the older sister while the Dragonborn is the younger sister." I feel bad for their parents, one daughter disappears forever and not knowing that she's become Sheogorath then the other is on an extended vacation in Skyrim though I like to think she writes to them from time to time.

Enough about my things, I do admire the effort put in to really make Martin more emotional as a normal(as normal can be in TES, it's kinda fun for me while writing to figure out how to make Oblivion's NPCs less quirky) person would about such a devastating and unexpected attack like Kvatch.  I can even hear Martin's voice in my mind when reading the his lines on the panels. Speaking of Kvatch, the scene with the siege engine breaking through and the people running in terror really drive home just how destructive Dagon can be.

Don’t feel awkward about the female dunmer. There are actually so many female dunmer HOKs in people’s art. It’s amazing. (At least One of the dunmer is a male). Maybe it was the people who still had Morrowind in their heads and were fond of the dunmer. Maybe it’s the fact that the dunmer females looked comparatively attractive in Oblivion. Or maybe the female Dunmer really is the best choice.
Thanks for what you said about Martin. I am not an experienced story writer but I always try to hear Sean Bean reading my lines to make sure that they fit the character. It keeps me from just writing what I would say.

My HoK is a Nord. As are all my characters. All my mains are basically a recreation of me in some way. And if I had to pick a race to be in the Elder Scrolls, I think a Nord fits best for me. (Breton at a close second.)

The only time my main wasbt a Nord is my Morrowind character, Jade, who is a dark elf. I tried making a Nird, but it didnt feel right. It feels weird to have a Nerevarine that ISNT a dark elf.

Thanks! It was pretty hard to draw. I don’t much like drawing backgrounds. I only really liked drawing the exploding wall. That was fun and I like it.

Oh no. I like the long comments. It’s fun reading what everyone else has done for their races and why.

Thanks. I actually have a whole bunch, but I keep going back and editing things to improve the pages. Progress may be slow since I am starting university.

heh, I made my Nerevarine a Nord woman named Sonja. My Dovahkiin, on the other hand, is a Dunmer... Who was friends with my Nord Nerevarine. She's still kicking, and the two meet up again in Skyrim and laugh their asses off at the race swap over bottles of mead and sujamma(mead for the Dunmer, sujamma for the Nord. No, the irony is not lost on either of them.)

I did, but my hero was something of a one-shot character, who came out of nowhere and sacrificed himself to ensure that Martin reached the Temple when Dagon appeared in the Imperial City. Storyline-wise, he distracted Dagon with an illusion spell, disguising himself as Martin and drawing him away from the entrance. The real Martin only realized this at the last second before entering the temple, and swore his friend's sacrifice would not be in vain, and would end the threat of Oblivion once and for all, even if it cost Martin his own life. In my actual playthrough, Dagon kept killing me just before I reached the temple, and when I finally made it, I decided to make use of my deaths against him for storyline...

Love the pages so far! Hope to see more.
(I made my hero a bosmer. And she and Martin also hook up.)

Cool. Breton or Bosmer probably would have been my second choice.
