2. It's back when he was created and before Dr. Wily betrayed Dr. Light. Protoman didn't get his shades until after he left Dr. Light's lab which occurred ed after Wily left.
Wily left, then Proto left, then Proto got his shades.

No evil Wily = No Zero = MegaMan is not equipped for combat  |  Also no MM Battle Network
MegaMan not fighting robot = No X  |  No MMBN = No MMSF
No X & Zero = No MegaMan X series
No MegaMan X = No MegaMan Zero
No MegaMan Zero = No MegaMan ZX

So, if Wily doesn't turn evil the only MegaMan we're left with (if any at all) is Legends. And no one wants that. Not even Legends fans (or people whom it's their favourite)

Yeah, but maybe we would've had something totally different. Wily's not the only evil scientist around (Megaman' world and events were mostly happening in whatever Megaman's city was) but he's specialized in hacking and robot weapon designs. So with Proto Man on the loose, let's imagine that Proto Man becomes jealous of the fact that Mega Man's basically his replacement (that and Proto still holds a grudge against Light, even to this day) someone else could've used said Proto Man to try and build up his own army, while Mega Man would've been upgraded into a fighting robot by Light AND Wily. So after a few years, we could've something along the lines of Model ZX, or like a mix of Megaman and Bass, with Proto Man and someone else as main series villains.

That would also be cool. And it opens the path for Battle Network and Starforce's alternate realities (since they're based on the Classic series), and a possible Megaman X assuming that the conflict lasts that long, but not necessarily with Mavericks as villains to fight.
So yeah, possibilities man! Even with a good Dr.Wily, things could've gotten interesting.

I just had to go back and read my comment form the beginning since I was stumped as to what you were talking about.
But yeah, does make sense.

Point is, Imma just say X is not that much more advanced than Mega; but as far as the characters inside the 4th wall are concerned, he is, so maybe Mega City or whatever it's called didn't drop off the face of the earth.

Maybe X just really is that much more advanced than MegaMan but the characters believe it to be mainly for their "free will". When you think about it, even though Mega, Roll, Proto, Bass and the Robot Masters all have "free will" (to a point anyway, since some of the masters are just pre-programmed by Wily)" it's not ever stressed or even acknowledged at all by any of the characters. Only by real life people outside the 4th wall. So maybe, humans didn't realise that "reploids" have existed for a hundred years or so but didn't notice so X is the "father of all reploids" and Cain's reploids were the first ones.

**The term reploid had originally referred to the machines based on X's design etc. that were built by Dr. Cain and the others ones like them. But in time, people began to refer to X and Zero as reploids as well since technically, what the word means, they do fit the definition.

Fair point. I do believe that's what Light was goin' for: make the guy advanced as a person more than a war machine.

True. Especially in the classic series, where the lore wasn't all that complex. THough the free will thing is especially seen in Proto, Bass and Mega: I believe it's shown in Mega Man 7, and even Mega Man: The Power Battles series. ...But even then it's mostly acknowledged by the scientists, but then again in Mega Man 9, Wily gets his army of Robot Masters by telling themabout their expiration date, which means that they join him willingly. That's a pretty darn good evidence of free will from characters other than just the main onces.
But again: you're right. X IS bascially the father of all reploids, and he's the one Light worked the most on anyway (even after his death), so that makes sense.

Right. So I guess we wouldn't necessarily have had reploids the same way if Wily hadn't gone evil and the rest of theplot didn't happen, since X and Zero wouldn't have been made the same way. That's interesting.

The Rockman mangas are more comedy-oriented than the games.

For example: In the Rockman Zero manga, Omega is insane, and he has an irrational fear of zombies (like the enemies that Anubis attacks you with in MMZ1 & 3.

I haven't read any of the Rockman manga. I tried reading Rockman ZX at one point but I never got past chapter 1.
