Personally, I am glad that silly FPS game got cancelled. It looked nothing really like X at all and seemed to be a generic shooter. Hell they didn't even make a buster gun as part of the model. I suspect it was never really an X game and was mislabeled.

Never forget. We almost had a Mega Man X game similar to Metroid Prime. (even though it really looked moreso similar to Dead Space.)
If a certain team (I'll leave it to your imagination) were to divert and decided to make it with their own staff and budget,
we could see them make it anyway, but they'd obviously have to call it something different from "Mega Man-anything"
the term(s) "Maverick/Maverick Hunter"Β doesn't belong to Capcom. It was used in several different pieces of media, including, If I'm not mistaken, Top Gun, Aeon Flux and Bladerunner ('90s)
If it were to happen, I'd Kickstart it! Hell, didn't we get a game kickstarted based on licensed IPs, and the game got the company's blessings?

X Command Mission version 1 looks like the Truforce X minus the glowing circuit parts. Original X looks like the armored version of X in Rockman Online and X from the FPS Maverick Hunter.... somehow looks like a mix of Crysis, Dead Space, and the regular enemies that looks like X from MMZ.
But who cares? I love all of these designs. Really hope someone will either make a fangame of this or figure someday.

Version 2 of Command Mission X looks best. The gold fits much better on Zero rather than X

Always happy to see Command Mission lovin', but I really enjoy the "Original X" design. Dunno if this is intentional or not, but the lines and the colors kind of give a "diamond" motiff, makes him look both tough and sleek at the same time.
