Description
Quick note, I'll be starting to submit my original creations into sci-fi as opposed to fantasy, because the Dark Army will be a sci-fi story. On the Mohs Scale of Science Fiction "Hardness" (how scientifically accurate the work is) ( [link] BEWARE: the link goes to TVTropes, which can and will eat your time like you've never seen before), I'm aiming for the story to be a solid 4 out of 6 (1 is pretty much fantasy or plot device-heavy sci-fi, and 6 is pure nonfiction).
Anyway.
NOTE: I may update this later to at least detail Scaladius's species, the Crulic Gargoyles.
Any of you all who follow me (not very many as of this writing) know that this is one of the characters in my story idea, The Dark Army. I can't reveal the exact role Scaladius plays, since that would be a massive spoiler.
But yeah. I've drawn versions of this guy since 2007, when he was just a stupid-looking gargoyle with two wings. In January 2009, I made his name Drakath and totally re-designed him to look original ( [link] ). Even still, in November 2009, I slightly modified the January model to appear more sinister ( [link] ) (and the pose on the November one is just awful... but I like everything else about it). Since then, I've had issues in re-drawing this character, largely because of the anatomy I gave him. Don't get me wrong, I've done it since November 2009--it's just that each time since then was just a crappy afterthought rendition.
Until now.
After almost two years, I've successfully "modernized" (fitted to my more current style of drawing) Scaladius, easily one of my favorite characters that I made and easily one of the best that I made.
As I said, I won't openly spoil Scaladius's role in The Dark Army... but since I have a feeling that the comic won't kick off any time soon, if you want the information relayed to you, note me and I'll consider it.
I also planned to add the caption "WHAT HAVE YOU ALL DONE?!", partially a reference to the amazing August Burns Red song called The Seventh Trumpet, and because it'd fit his pose and expression, but decided not to for the sake of simplicity and making sense.
After all, "Simplicity spawns perfection; complexity breeds esotericism." - Scaladius
Also, check out my new logo (found in the upper right hand corner)! I made it in Digital Media class, for just this sort of thing. If you couldn't tell, the primary focus of it is Scaladius/Drakath, albeit the figure is simplified to fit with the title of "logo".
