Description
Frank Miller was NEVER one of my favorite artists, and while he did a great work with Batman Year One and an interesting approach in Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, he's nothing short than mediocre in All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder. Every time the line "Goddamn Batman" appears on the comic, I swear I want to beat Frank Miller to death. The script is like a 13-years old trying to mimic Frank Miller on his Sin City stories. Pathetic

i'm a huge miller fan and i loved what he did with year one and dk returns. but even i think his writing in all star was a bit forced and the whole book really IS just a glorified fanfic.. still tho, jim lee's art in the book was fantastic

That comic would be awesome minus the speech bubbles and pure Jim Lee's art

Frank Miller ruined the character of the Joker in that series. That Joker didn't even crack a smile. How could he screw that up? The Joker is a nut-case but at least he smiled.
Aside from the great art, the story and dialogue are written terribly, every character is OOC in a bad way, and the portrayal of women in HIS comics is sexist and stupid.

Awww, ta very muchos.
But really, Frank Miller doesn't deserve any praise for All Stars: Batman & Robin.
He's had enough comic experience to know better.
Plus, dressing up a Sin City story in Batman's cowl is disgraceful - Against everything the character stands for!
A crime against comics.
-_-
Thanks for replying!

You know what, I haven't even read that comic you speak of, but I -have- heard of that stupid line he says, and I gotta say: I agree with you. Such awful writing.

Nicely drawn, and makes a valid point indeed.
First time I read All Star Batman and Robin I couldn't keep a smile off my face (though I couldn't decide if THAT was a bad thing or not ). It was that over the top to me it bordered hilarity. Know what I'm saying?

You could smile with sarcasm, or ignore the script and just drool the art
But really, what on the hell Miller is smoking? Because I want to keep away from that. Now every character is from the goddamn Sin City!

I hated how he portrayed Dick Grayson. Ugh, I just wanted to punch that little Gary-Stu. Thank God Jim Lee did the art work, otherwise I would have been so pissed at myself for buying it.

Frank Miller's Batman is a maniac and a jerk, totally out-of-character. He's more like a Sin City's character than Batman, like ALL characters Miller have been doing. This guy deserves a lobotomy ASAP.

well when i first read it i thought it was cool because AS batman, he's laughing like crazy which is perfect cause a laugh like that would scare bad guys, which is what he's sposed to do lol i dont like batman always broody n moody talking about how he wants to quit, i just like the idea of him enjoying what he's doing

Yeah, the real cannon Batman would laugh to scare the bad guys, he have done it before. But he would NEVER allow the "bad guys" to kill each other like Miller's does. He'd do anything on his power to debilitate and/or get out as fast as he can to avoid deaths or serious wounds.
Batman isn't always broody, moody or talking about to quit, he just do what he have to do and knows that he would never stop, because it was what he have to do. Even Robin (Tim Drake) said once that the day he'd stop would be the day that Robin wouldn't be necessary, and it's a day he's looking forward. Don't you think that Batman would think the same way? Batman sometimes thinks of sharing his life, but those moments are seldom and between, but who can blame him? There's no way a sane man would enjoy having to fight psychos as Joker, Scarecrow or Poison Ivy. People who don't read the regular comics have no idea what Batman villains can do. Heck, not even villains from the other heroes' gallery enjoy to deal with Batman villains.
Frank Miller destroyed Batman, he would have his hands chopped off and his lips sewed.

i like it when batman tries to save the bad guys instead of just letting them die yeah, because the fact when he fails to save someone even the bad guys it hits him almost as hard as if he couldnt save a good person, he's trained to KILL but doesn't, and yeah frank miller is a crazy son of a bitch considering damn near all of his characters are similar lol

the only thing that makes it clear that Frank wrote Allstar Batman and Robin is the abundance of brutal violence and the presence of so many hot women. I read that book and i wanted to say, "Frank, what' s going on with you"?

People say it's a prequel to The Dark Knight Returns and The Dark Knight Strikes Again. But for me, even knowing this don't makes the story any less... Horrible.

UltimeciaFFB In reply to Master-of-the-Boot [2008-12-07 19:49:38 +0000 UTC]
Yup, I never had read such pile of rubbish before, and I've read many awful stuff before. Fascist, many heroes acting off-character, awful art, confusing narrative... The ONLY part I think was cool was Superman and Batman fighting at the bat-cave. The rest... I wish I could unread it.
Now I know that all this Frank Miller stuff is a part of it's own universe (Dark Knight Returns, Dark Knight Strikes Again, All Star Batman & Robin, the two Spawn crossover) I'm starting to think that Frank Miller is such a bad writer they need to create a entire universe because he can't make the characters act like they would!

Too right! I've never actually been a real fan of Frank Miller. Although I appreciate him getting out of my comfort zone from time to time, he REALY screws things up, bad.The alternate take is just a tad too wierd. The only reason I follow 'All Stars' is because of Jim Lee.

lol, I concur, All Star Batman is rubbish. I hope you're not forming your opinion about him based purely on All Star though, as I think he's done some great work outside of that. What other stuff from him have you read?

UltimeciaFFB In reply to blackmask002 [2008-03-05 16:19:11 +0000 UTC]
IMHO, everything he has done after 2000 is rubbish. Batman Year One was fantastic, Dark Knight Returns was revolutionary, 300 was wicked (I read before watching the movie)...But after Sin City series (they ARE good, but if you read one, you read them all) all his work are the same. The Dark Knight Strikes Again is a waste of time (horrible script, worse art) and All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder got GREAT art, but horrible script.
And his Batman/Spawn crossover made both of the title characters to act... Out of character! It was the first time he did something not that good (1994).
I never read his material for Daredevil and Elektra, I'm not much a fan of Marvel.

Yeah, I definitely agree, The Dark Knight Strikes Again is the comic book equivalent to Batman And Robin. I'm not a fan of Marvel either but the stuff he did for Daredevil is really great. He's also done this one work called Ronin, about a samurai, I can't remember the exact date but I think it was done sometime in the 80s and it's really good, check it out if you get the chance.
