Description

The Aztec were a Mesoamerican culture primarily inhabiting Mexico. They became dominant in the area during the early 1300's, but were later subject to colonization and genocide from the Spanish Empire during the 1500's. Most written works of the Aztecs were lost to time due to how excessively time-consuming copying text was at the time, or inentionally destroyed as heresy by the Spanish Empire. I used depictions found in the Codex Borgia, one of the few remaining works of literature by the Aztecs, as a basis for this drawing.

As a suggestion for anyone who's interested in embarking on similar projects: you might not want to use purple or magenta for your character. Before the synthethication of Mauveine in 1856, most cultures did not use purple in their artwork, as the previous source, Tyrian purple, was inordinately expensive. I wished to remain authentic and solely rely on colours which the Aztec regularly used.
