Description
Simple title, simple picI'm trying to make my characters look more realistic and now Elijah got a little make-over again
While the character became wilder and darker again (for some time he really was going into Anne Rice direction *lol*), more of a rebel, a troublemaker I wanted this to show in his looks
Tell me what you think

yum yum yum...everything in ur gallery is gorgeous, btw. but since you mentioned you want to make ur characters look more realistic, I would suggest changing the eyes - maybe more sinister or mischievous? I dunno - I myself am terrible at eyes so I tend to draw ppl with them closed. Sakimichan always has fantastic expressions and she happens to have an eye reference posted right now. [link]

oh, my favorite again
i don't need to say anything, he's ELIJAH you know!
yes, he's more realistic. with nail polishes, eyebrows, beard and everything but i think the body shadows are a bit strange in the middle and hands. and also the left hand its self (the right in the picture) i'm not in a position to critique your arts as you are a great artist yourself, that's just what i thought.
it's a new kind of ELIJAH but i loved old Elijah more. he was dark, he could show the real elijah, i mean exactly his personality. but that's good too
oh and the hair is beautiful

Don't say you're not in the position to critique, as an artist you can't improve without proper critique and yours was totally right
Thank you

The first thing that came into my head when I saw this was "Che Guevara". Not the man himself, but the image on a hundred thousand T-shirts owned by a hundred thousand rebellious teenagers.
Elijah's been through a lot of changes recently. If you look at him here:-
[link]
... he seems more at peace with himself, more trusting - like I said in the comment, more carefree. In this one...
[link]
... he seemed darker, as though he'd grown jaded and empty - as I said at the time, he made me think of a narcotic, seductive but destructive.
Here, he isn't at peace - he looks moody, a little bit aggressive, and maybe a little bit angry and sulky - which is why I compared him to a rebellious teenager - but with something more dangerous underneath - unlike those teenagers with their T-shirts, he's seen violence and death for real, and knows better than to glamorise it. In "Father and Son", his emotions are gentle and tender, and in "Family Business", he looked almost as though experience and vice had robbed him of most of his ability to feel anything. Here, there is more of a sense of fierce passion. Not necessarily wise passion - this is Elijah, after all - but deeply felt. I could easily imagine him marching with student demonstrators, loudly protesting some injustice or other.
Have you chanced his musculature? He looks a little more like a wrestler and less like a swimmer.
Is that your own beard you've given him? You wanted to make him seem more like a rebel and troublemaker, so you made him look more like yourself? Hmmm.....

You're absolutely right. As I said I still try to find the "perfect" way for Elijah's personality. Even thinking about his taste in music and how it would affect him to be a musician himself. He had centuries to find hobbies after all *lol*
I didn't change his musculature, it's the texture doing it. It defines the muscles way stronger. I had to return to the old texture now but if you like it we surely can find a way to use it for one of your pics
I laughed so hard about the beard thing, I didn't even realize this! Must have been my subconsciousness *lol*

I think it would be great for a certain type of character - someone who was a little rough around the edges, tough, and aggressive. I'm not sure it would work for Alessio, because one of the most fun things about Alessio is the way he sulks about looking so sweet and cute and puppy-like - making him look too rough and tough would take away from that. I have a couple of characters that I think the texture would suit, but they're a little way down my present priority list. (Yup, I've compiled a priority list. Who says I can't organize myself? Oh, yes... my mother )

Nice! I can see how you've improved the texturing (I think that's what you've done, in any case his torso looks even better). Since you asked, two crits:
1) Where his pectorals attach to the humerus doesn't look right to me, looks like the muscle is kind of bowing out.
2) IMHO, for what you've described, his face needs to be edgier. Perhaps it is just his expression? But it doesn't convey dark or wild to me.

Thanks for your helpful comment Yeah, the texturing really looks great on the torso but I still changed it back to the old one. It is a great texture but it hardly works with the rest of the cast and gave some weird results in certain light and angles
Thanks a lot

Happy to help! I understand. I wonder what the problem is with this new texture? A mapping issue? When I tried 3D I found non-computer generated texturing tricky, to say the least.
While comparing them I like this texture more, I never saw a problem with the other one looking at your work. It looks good too.

I guess the problem is mostly the advanced type of the texturing. It is handpainted (not by me, it's from a set I bought) and looks different to many of the other textures I have. Using it on it's own isn't the problem but together with others the character stands out too much. It looked strange for example when Alessio and Elijah, one of the major couples, were on one pic since Alessio has a rather "clean" skin texture. I didn't want to change him since his look was the very first I was totally happy with of all the vampire story characters and it actually formed the pic I have of Alessio in my mind, not the other way around with my imagination forming the character I render. So Elijah had to change after all, since I couldn't get myself to change Alessio

That makes sense. You certainly want the elements of your work to look like they belong together! Maybe you'll find another use for it.
