Aeshma – A Persian archangel
… According to some lists at least. Many sources also call Aeshma a Zoroastrian demon of wrath and violence. And since Zoroastrianism is an Iranian/Persian religion, I am incorporating both. I really hope it works!

Name: Aeshma
Civilian (Disguise) Name: Elaheh Sherazi
Age: About 2,500 or more. Has been around since the Achaemenid Empire (First Persian Empire). Appears to be in her late teens to early twenties.
Birthday: November 28 (Sagittarius)
Hair: Black, long, kept in a braided bun most of the time. Wears a scarf over horns in senshi form. Wears some sort of head covering (usually a veil) in Earth civilian form.
Eyes: Has acquired complete heterochromia iridum due to a magical injury to her left eye. Her right eye is dark brown and her left is now a sort of blue-green colour.
Skin: Brown with a slight golden undertone.
Height: 5’2” (157cm)
Other Features: Due to the Taint, she has permanent horns. In her Angel State (normal form) and in her civilian form, they are small and easily covered up by her hair and scarves/veils/hats. Also has tattoo like markings on her face. Both change in her Demon State (an extension of her powers).
Likes: She likes fighting monsters, she feels that it distances herself from her own and the horrors that she committed in the past. She sees it as atoning for what she has done. On a more mundane level, her favourite foods are pomegranates and Middle Eastern cuisine. She is an introverted person, so she likes a good amount of alone time, or just being around small groups of people who she feels close to. These people include her soulmate creature, Arezu, Dubbiel, and his soulmate creature, Sahar (although Sahar's loud personality does make Aeshma feel drained quickly).
Dislikes: Aeshma has a mild pollen allergy and as such, is not fond of spring when everything is in full bloom or windy weather that causes there to be more pollen in the air. However, she does not hate flowers (she's kind of neutral on them), she prefers them over anything dull and lifeless: wastelands, the colour black, etc. She's not a big fan of bland food either.
Personality: Aeshma is graceful and has an air about her that commands respect. Many around her would consider her a person who is lacking in the ability to love. This isn't quite true. She definitely has an aloof nature and doesn't let people in easily, but she cares deeply for those she does let in. Even to those she isn't so open with, she is driven to protect. However, there are only a few people she will team up with happily, for anyone else, it is merely out of necessity.

Aeshma is a bit of a loner due to her introvert nature, but has also cut herself off because she fears what people would do if they knew of her other nature. Some could also say that she has some anger issues, but this again is because of her other nature. It's true that she's always been a defiant person, and easy to wrong and put in an argumentative state, but The Taint has amplified this. She has it under control, but still has a short temper.
Background: For the first 500 years of her life, Aeshma was seen a powerful warrior and very much respected by her peers. She was beautiful, and normal. An angel, just like everyone else. She had her secrets, though. Driven by curiosity of the sudden pleading of the shouting fallen angel, Dubbiel, she went to confront him. He had been pleading for an end to his life, but the moment he saw her, he begged to be healed. Disgusted by this pitiful creature, she turned and abandoned him.

Her curiosity made her keep watch over this fallen man, however. After doing so for a year, she noticed him changing and mending his ways. She reappeared to him one day, now willing to talk to him with his better behaviour. She sat and listened to his story, and to his words of gratitude. This was certainly not the same creature she had met a year previously. He'd earned the right to be called a man again.

Over the years, she kept visiting this man, this Dubbiel. She realised early on that however much he tried to heal himself, the Corruption within him would always demand to have some partial control over him. So, she found him a necklace that she enchanted with the help of the recently reformed Sahar to keep his new mind as his own. Their meeting remained brief and infrequent, but there was still enough time for them to form a strong bond and fall in love. They made do with the time alloted to them, but something was about to change...

One day, Aeshma ventured out alone after a powerful demon that had been threatening her home to protect those she loved.
She severely underestimated its power.
The battle was short, but she was not the victor. Sure, she killed the beast, but in the process, her wings had been torn off. And in its death throes, the demon attacked one last time, injuring her left eye and implanting some of its power within her.
The Taint.
Her soul no longer shone like the others'. Slowly, the demon's Taint enveloped her, and, according to the angels around at the time, she fell. She became a demon of wrath and violence. A scourge to humanity.
After hundreds of years fighting from within, she regained her body and her control, but was unable to rid herself of her horns or the marks on her face, or the Taint from her soul.
Bitter that no one had come to help her, and scared of revealing herself and what she had become to the man she loved, she stayed in the world alone, honing her skills and learning to control the Taint to use it to her advantage. It was part of her now. She had to accept it and use it for any good that she was able to, just like Dubbiel had done with his own darkness.
Fast forward to the modern day, she has almost completely mastered control of the Taint and has finally heard a call from the angels after all this time. Upon her return to the Angels' Sanctuary, she discovers that nothing is as she remembers. Adonael has sealed herself within the Tree of Life, which has now cracked and let great evils once again escape into the world.
If this is her chance to atone for her sins against humanity, she will gladly take it.

This is also her chance to find Dubbiel again and tell him the truth, if only she can find the courage...

Realm of Influence: Fire and Darkness (Which was added after she received the Taint)

Weapon: Metal claws over her fingers that she can also strike together to create flames for her attacks. They can also deal a great deal of damage if used for physical attacks.

Attacks: When in her Angel State, her power focuses more on defense, with some minor attack power attached. She will act as support when in a group.
Flame Shield: Can be used in two ways, to protect herself/her team, or to trap the enemy within a ring of fire that will burn them if they try to escape. The flames will only harm the enemy, so allies can pass through them at will. To create these flames, she strikes two or more of her metal claws together and lashes the fire out in her desired position.
Dark Solitude: Aeshma swipes at her opponents face, dealing damage and blinding them, occasionally blocking out other senses as well. This only lasts for a short amount of time, but when she uses it in tandem with her Flame Shield, the enemy will begin to hurt themselves when they try to attack in their fear. This causes their rage to build and makes their attacks more erratic and less planned out. Their defence is let down and they often hurt themselves while trying to fight afterwards.

Demon State: Aeshma’s soul is tainted with a powerful darkness. A long time has passed since the event that caused this to happen. She has learnt to control the demon within her and use the Taint to transform into a secondary state. It is taxing on her energy and so can only be used for a limited time in battle.
In some circumstances, such as severe injury or extreme rage, the Demon State will trigger automatically and act on its own accord for a very short amount of time. This incarnation of pure wrath and violence is twice as dangerous and ten times as draining. She will return to her civilian form directly after this.
Attacks: In her Demon State, all defense is sacrificed for speed and attack. However, she will not use this form while fighting in a team (not until after the inevitable reveal, anyway).
Burning Rage: A small fire starts in her hands, but after she throws it, it turns into a firestorm that races towards the enemy and engulfs them.
Night Slash: For a moment, the battlefield is turned pitch black as Demon Aeshma speeds in for an attack with her powerful claws.

It probably goes without saying that she prefers to avoid demon slayers and angels that are thwarters of demons.
Living in Iran for most of her life during her exile, she has grown accustom to wearing a veil and loose fitting clothes. However, given the choice, she will wear something else, as long as there is something covering the horns on her head. Her hair won’t cover them completely, after all.
Before receiving the Taint, Aeshma did have some powerful attacks, but afterwards, all of her power was warped, and now her offensive attacks can only be accessed through her Demon State while her more defensive ones remain with her Angel State.

I had so much fun coming up with this character.

It turned out the one with the best name on the list, and the least information there, had some of the most interesting and conflicting information I could find. I used both the angel and the demon, because if you know me, you'd know I love me some dual-natured characters (alright, it's probably something you didn't know about me But I do tend to have at least one dual-natured character in every book I write, and one of my favourite stories is Jekyll and Hyde).

(And yes, there is a pretty strong Final Fantasy influence with her design)

I'm really looking forward to seeing how she fits in~
