C'est fini!

I feel really proud of myself with this one. This is the first drawing I've completely sketched from scratch in a digital program and didn't get completely annoyed with part way through! I'm really not sure of the Disney-ish style I tried out this time. I'll be practising some realistic stuff to develop a style, because I'm not happy with how un-dynamic my current style appears and same-ish in the face they all end up.

About M90 (a quick lesson)
Messier 90 is a spiral galaxy located in the Virgo Cluster (basically, within the Virgo constellation). It is one of the largest and brightest spiral galaxies (beating the Andromeda Galaxy). Most star formation occurs within the centre of this galaxy, with multiple supernovae in the nucleus producing 'superwinds'. It is also a blueshifted galaxy, basically meaning that it's heading towards Earth.

Character Design
So, yeah, she's not exactly the epitome of modern fashion. There is a little bit of military flare to her (ie. Sgt. Pepper type stuff), but mostly, I was inspired by the Jazz scene, and stuff from the 1920s. I suppose there is a little bit of steampunk-y inspiration too. But really, modern fashion could mean anything, so I guess I haven't completely gone astray~ :> I put the galaxy in her brooch as well, I thought that might be a good place to put it, but it ended up on her stockings as well. I don't know if that's going to stay that way, I might make it plain stars a bit later.

I think I was listening to a lot of Jazz and watching tv shows set in the 20s (Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, in particular) when inspiration struck for her design and power/hobbies. And she's French because, well, I'm learning the language at uni next year and yet I don't have a single French character. She'll be my challenge to practise writing in French at least (I can tell for the most part, my verb use, adjectives, tenses, etc. are going to be horrible until I get back into it).

The fact that her element is wind (in the form of sound/music) came from the whole 'supernovas producing superwinds' thing, and I thought it was an awesome idea. Sure, I could have gone for light, or heat, or stars, but that would be too obvious~
