Description
Before the actual description of this organism, I’d like to note that I’m using the Spectember list created by Din0boy1, which can be found here: www.deviantart.com/din0boy1/ar…For yesterday’s Spectember prompt, I drew the speculative wildlife of Australia had the dinosaurs not gone extinct. This animal is from that world.
The Handy Pygmy Sauropod is a sauropod about as tall as a person. They got this small thanks to neoteny; they keep their adolescent sizes even as adults, mostly as a way to avoid and hide from larger predators that were capable of taking down large sauropods. Their long tongues are forked and even work as primitive hands, but they’re only about as intelligent as a parrot (meaning they’re actually still exceptionally smart). Out of all their small relatives, they’re the most intelligent of the bunch, and perhaps one day they will go on to create grand civilizations.
They’re actually far more carnivorous for a sauropod than one would generally expect. They often eat small mammals and pterosaurs, using their tails to whip and sometimes even crush them. Of course, they still do eat foliage, and their tongue has sort of moved in place of their necks, even though their necks are pretty long. They’re often compared to turtles more than they are to other sauropods.
