Another annoyance when you're questing in a brand new zone clogged with people who literally haven't quested in ages. So everyone and their dog has the same quest to kill the same named NPC. Here's a typical scenario:Me: Hey guys, let's group up
Mob of players: *silence*
Cue every single AOE spell you can think of going off simultaneously.
NPC spawns
NPC shatters into a million little molecules
The guy that actually tagged the NPC didn't even help kill the bloody NPC and nicks off.
Rinse and repeat.
If you are like my kitty druid who has no channeled AOE spell, you were pretty much screwed. Using Thunderstorm isn't really that helpful for a kitty, since our mana pools are the size of of a pinhead.

Ah, I should have guessed that this problem would also be happening in the worgen and goblin starting zones too, with all the players flooding there!

Tip for tagging mobs: Just stand near where the mob is most likely to appear and spam instant cast attacks or spells. If you're lucky, you'll have gotten some damage in before the AoE-casters get their damage tick in.

With that off my chest, I heartily agree with you in regards to the content of that little strip up there. Nothing more annoying than selfish claimjumpers not taking a simple number and waiting in line. It made the new racial starting zones a pain in the arse to experience. *twitch*
Anyways, looking forward to more of your pictoral commentary on the ups and downs of life post-Cataclysm.

I recently did the Worgen starting zone (Not quite done yet) and I keep finding the same mob lying in several places around their spawn location...
I had this happen to me shortly before Cataclysm though, I was doing a quest in Booty Bay to kill the leaders of the Bloodsail buccaneers as a lowbie hunter and found a level 80 belf pally running around killing all the pirates (probably for that insane achievement I bet). Naturally when I got to the boat the captain was dead. So I just sat there in the cabin and waited, the guy spawned and JUST as I sent my pet to attack him the pally comes in and oneshots him right in front of me... so I had to wait for him to spawn AGAIN. I believe he even killed the guy three times before I finally managed to attack him first >.<

It's adorable. X3 For whatever reason you made it that way, it's frigging cute. And the diaries are great, too. My husband and I just got Cataclysm last night (damn our stupid late pay periods, lol) and we're finding out exactly what you were talking about. It's ridiculous in some areas, to say the least. Especially the Worgen starting area. Ohmaifarkinggawd.

One cool thing I've noticed is that they changed kitty swipe so that it no longer requires a target before it'll do anything. Kinda like bear swipe now, which is great!

If you'd like to get them back, here's a tip..
Create a macro with whatever spammable single target instant spell/ability you want to use, in this case we'll use Mangle. The macro should read:
#showtooltip
/startattack
/cast Mangle
Startattack will turn on your attack and swing instantly while it scans for nearby NPCs. If you click on it fast (I click both right and left mouse buttons interchangeably very fast as both will activate the button), you will often tag the mob even with everyone's AE going off. I have had to sadly do it a lot in the past, and similar means of spamming in other games.
While it's "Massively Multiplayer Online", it is really funny how socially awkward everyone is and nobody ever groups. Makes me miss the beginning of WoW when people were still used to games where you COULDN'T solo, so they'd group all the time for their quests.

Thanks for the tip! I noticed that almost all the named NPC's we have to kill in Cata pretty much park in one spot and never move. In the other expansions, many of them moved around, which made it harder for mobs of players to simply camp one spot.
Back then I use to use a targeting macro to locate mobs, which worked pretty well. Luckily, because I'm leveling two toons at once, most of the mobs of players have moved on to the next zone ahead of me!

Yea, I remember the days of /target specific mob name. It was pretty horrendous. I hope this tip helps you though.
Hate seeing people frustrated due to a lack of unintuitive features on Blizzard's part. I guarantee you will be getting quests done much faster this way, with less camping.

lol-- so true lol especially alliance mo-fos no offence but I was trying a Worgen after being horde for so long and I'm like OMG ! I started off on Alli and went to horde got tired of the drama 12 yr old mofos LOL..i should have known

I've played both factions, on several realms, and I've noticed that it's always the dominant population faction on each realm that is the rudest and most obnoxious. Sadly, everytime a new expansion launches, a lot of rude people also decide to come back to the game at that time.

lol well horde has the "uglier" races and snooty brats tend to want to play the pretty ones ..lol Mature find the beauty in the horde races. I wasn't too impressed with Tauren female until I made a little druid and OMG she grew on me and I fell in love with her and her people

Yes, now that the initial tidal wave has passed, things are starting to return to normal again! Because I'm leveling slower than everyone else, that giant mass of swarming players has moved on to the next zone!

Hehe! So true! Luckily my overcrowded server has gotten its fair share of nice people lately so groups are easy enough. But we did make a group of 5 to kill an NPC and then ONE guy came and tagged it before any in the group managed to... That stung...

I managed to get into a group or two as well. At one spot, there were three separate groups all vying for the same mob. All the AOE going off made it look like the 4th of July!

Huh. So far I've lucked out and gotten into groups for several quests. But that's what happens when you're on the Horde-side in my realm, I guess

Yeh, I think I have had better luck getting in groups on our horde side too. The smaller faction on most realms seem to be friendlier.

I spam tab and moonfire, regardless of spec, if I'm competing for next kill. Works well enough...

I tried moonfire too, but when you're up against simultaneous DnD, Blizzard, Thunderstorm, Rain of Fire, your instant attacks tend to struggle against all that nonstop AOE!

Grrr, it happened to me again just now in Deepholm. Stupid DK drops Death and Decay while his lock buddy calls down Rain of Fire, making me wait another 5 min for the NPC to respawn.
