Description This little girl was sitting across the row from me as I talked with another gentleman about various topics. She stared at me the whole time, never moving. Just blinking. I smiled, took a photo, and she smiled back.

Ah, this is such a wonderful picture I love when little kids do stuff like that...I always smile at them and its so great when they smile back too. I don't know, just feels like you make some sort of connection.

Exactly. I find it amusing because a lot of babies just stare at me. It's pretty funny. Thanks for the comment and the favorite.

I really like the background story.
It enhances the picture a lot.
She's very pretty. ^^

I'm really very speechless at the moment.
So I don't really have a lot of critique to give.
The picture is very complete, though.

Congratulations on the DD!
And now, a favorite for you.

JunkieJXL [2005-06-24 16:57:52 +0000 UTC]

Very nice shot. Tones work well. Was it originally shot in colour? I agree with another comment from someone that the pic would have been nicer with a larger aperture to soften the background even more.
The look in the girls eyes is so innocent and questioning at the same time.

Im sure I dont have to say this but its worth adding. Be careful when taking shots of children that you dont know without getting prior permission from an accompanying adult. I was out shooting some pics the other day and spent a lot of time in a short dark, dead end alleyway with a high wall either side. I was trying to get the exposure correct for a particular shot, anyway after about 5 minutes a lady came down the alleyway and asked me if I was OK and what was I doing. I said I was fine and that I was just taking some photos. She smiled and then informed me that there was a nursery school on the other side of the wall. Needless to say I felt very silly indeed and can only imagine what she must have thought I was up to......

Uncle-Scratchy In reply to JunkieJXL [2005-06-24 22:24:19 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. It was shot on BW400CN, which is a black and white film that's processed in color chemicals.

About the permission, I was the paid photograpehr for this event, and had the parents sign a model release. But I'm not too worried (still am a little bit) because you can't make out her face too well. How did things turn out with that lady in the alley?

JunkieJXL In reply to Uncle-Scratchy [2005-06-25 09:59:50 +0000 UTC]

Ah that explains it then. I thought you were just in some random location and she was a random girl that you took a photo of. How do I get a model release form. Sounds like a good thing to have.

Things worked out OK with the lady, thankfully she was very understanding. But I guess I really must have looked very strange eh !!!!

Uncle-Scratchy In reply to JunkieJXL [2005-06-25 13:11:06 +0000 UTC]

I have a model release online, I'll note you with a link once I find out the correct one. It's hard keeping track of all the pages on that website and what not. Model releases are a definite good thing because they protect you, and your rights.

JunkieJXL In reply to Uncle-Scratchy [2005-06-25 13:49:32 +0000 UTC]

OK that would be great. Thankyou. I think its always wise to try and protect yourself these days. Look forward to receiving the link

I uploaded it to my scraps for ya. It makes it simpler for me. So anyhow, here's the link to downlaod it:

[link]

It's a full model release written y an American attorney. Enjoy. If you have any questions or just want to talk, drop me a note sometime.
