for my RISD illustration class.. uh... the assignment was to create a fantastical space and populate it with 'characters'... the critique was weird, no one seemed to have anything to say about it except for "so....it's really weeeeeird..."happy halloween bitches

You are so prolific, and I really wish I could just favorite all your pieces. These characters are beautiful (the front figure reminds me of Audrey Hepburn in her black leotard). And yeah, in my last critique, I showed a painting of the pope playing peekaboo. Nobody said a thing.
So is this ink, or graphite, or watercolor, or what? I'm having a hard time identifying the material.

The face/hands of the monster/the trees are charcoal smeared around with some water, and the darker blacks are india ink.

Wow. Well that's a really interesting use of those materials. I've been using india ink a lot lately, but I never really thought of using charcoal in that way. I'm gonna have to experiment with that.

yeah it helps to have the paper over some kind of textured surface. I drew this while it was taped to a spackled wall, so maybe that helped? Thanks for asking! Let me know how it turns out!

I really hate having my work "critiqued" by my art class as well. People just sayiing it's weird is something I only get too. But it's hard to understand, there's so much to say about all of your art. One thing I notice is that you do a wonderful job at conveying a sense of background and depth to each piece. It feels like I could enter these worlds. Anyway, great work as always.

Wow, this is really breathtaking. The style kind of reminds me of the illustrations from that series of books "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark". Beautiful contrast and I love the focus and pose of the main character.
