Background:
Edan Orlov was born with a stroke of great luck, and a stroke of terrible luck.
His terrible luck was immediately obvious. Born prematurely as a sickly child, he was an easy target for the Rot, even among Steelheart citizens. First he lost his heart, replaced very early with a carefully machined prosthetic. Then, his eyes were afflicted before he could see properly. Then his fingers, V370 spreading voraciously up his arms until they too were amputated and replaced.
His great luck, however, was the family that he was born into. His parents had never had one of their children so easily destroyed by the necrotic illness, and they refused to allow such a babe, one who had never seen the outside world without synthetic eyes, to die. He was their son and they’d protect him the best they could: By buying the best prosthetics and treatments money could get them. And for them, money was no issue.
It got worse before it got better. The prosthetics didn’t take right away and his body’s rejection of his many synthetic parts and organs made him violently ill with more mundane diseases, but in the end, he survived. He was, for all intents and purposes, a regular child with a bit more metal in him than usual.
Kept from the outside for much of his youth because of the constant infections and disasters that ate away at him, he was babied by his entire family and treated as if he was made of spun glass- ironic, given the machines and prosthetics embedded inside his body made him much tougher than his siblings.
The invitation to Nielsen’s re-opening provided the opportunity to finally step into the light as a proud member of his family- and when it was revealed to be a sham but one that would save the world, Edan redoubled his efforts. He’d do what he must, because he could. He owed it to the parents that loved him, and the family he loved.
Additional Information:
- Has a dimple only on the right side of his face, he’s embarrassed by that being pointed out.
- Spends ample time every morning to get his hair set just right, and is quite fussy about it being touched once he has it just the way he likes.
- Middle child of three, an elder and a younger sister.
