I will follow a tut by what I think is to the letter but rarely seem to get the proper result.
Usually the old poke and hope method works but blender is so involved/powerful/robust.
An instructor led class would probably work best 4 me.

I just can`t do them i realize. Always thought i had bags of patience when it comes to art but so far all the DIFs have me glaring at the sudden appalling slowness of my computer

Well how about making them small while rendering like I do under 2000 then resize it in PS ? Then it wouldn't take so long ?

I do stay small while working on them, even at say 300, the preview takes about 3mins a time. i`m used to a minute at most for previews, more than that and i start getting twitchy and violent

Yes try cleaning the temp files out , history and defrag too see if that makes a difference .
