weird... did you check that one box? "Add to background depth (not blend) checkbox? sometimes you have to check that for a BG to show

Working on another render right now , hope I can find the background depth thingy .

when you go to the BG tab, clear at the bottom of that window...
another thing can make the BG invisible is the bottom slider on the fog sliders...the far offset, if its too high the BG will not show
