Year 2016 update:
Instead of this guide, I now recommend using JDownloader 2 to download deviantART galleries. Note that you're still gonna need to have JRE installed.
2017 Update: JDownloader doesn't seem to work properly anymore. You can still use the method below. JDownloader seems to work again. It doesn't appear to always download the images at their full size - but it does however give better quality images than deviantART Favorites Downloader. If you have a different solution please write it in the comments bellow.
It's finally possible to download deviantART galleries with ease!
So, on the off-chance deviantART will shut down tomorrow, it'd be cool of you to download my gallery now and put it in your share folder. Plus, it's much nicer to browse through pictures when they're already downloaded to your computer.
Instructions: (these are for my gallery, but obviously you can use it for anything on deviantART)
1. Download the latest version of deviantART Favorites Downloader: sourceforge.net/projects/dafav⦠(you'd need to have JRE installed if you don't already have it: www.oracle.com/technetwork/jav⦠)
2. Open the program, go to Preferences > Options
3. Type in Username: UndefinedError
4. Mark "Gallery"
5. In Download location put: C:\deviantART\%artist%\%title%.%ext% (replace "C:\deviantART" with your desired folder)
6. Click the "Proxy" or "Advanced" tab so you'll get an error. Ignore it and return to General tab. Now mark "Use same location for mature deviations" and click Save.
7. Mark "Skip collections"
8. Click Download!

Sorry but it does not work on my machine, so I tried many other solutions, and found one wich is great : Download All Images, an addon (plugin) on Firefox (the web navigator), and it helps you to get all the images from a web page. You can even get the images on the linked pages of the one you're reading. But it can take some time to fullfill, despite some lacks, it's the better way I found to get the images.
1. you install the plugin
2. you activate it on your browser (you should see a small icon, the shape of a little window, up right in the toolbar)
3. you go where you found some images (Deviantart, or any other website)
4. you click on the icon, and choose the search level (0:just the page, 1:related pages, 2:all the linked images from the web page you're viewing)
5. it scans the page (the higher the level, the longer it takes, in minutes at most)
5. you click save, and it builds a zip archive, wich contains all the images it found during the scan
6. the location of the download/save archive of the images, is the same as your ordinary downloads from your browser.
7. unzip the archive, and make some cleaning (if you have chosen level 2 it can leads to a few thousands of images)
8. enjoy it

How do we use 'JDownloader 2' exactly ? I'm not sure to really understand how it works... The configuration, where is what, what does OR is doing what, the UI... It's quite a mess.

Yes. In JDownloader as long as you don't specify a page (offset) it will download all pages. To download everything, paste (i.e.) undefinederror.deviantart.com/β¦ and it will download all the user's deviations, except for scraps.

I tried it found only one problem. It doesn't download full images only the ones that you can see. If there is a download button allowing for a bigger image version it won't download it.

Ahh I see what people are saying. That's too bad about the full view vs download view size of the images. I guess it's not perfect. But the pros outweigh the cons for sure! Β Someone would have to do some update magic for that!

God damnit!!!!.. Thank yiu for this tutorial. Stuff is downloading, so so far so good. Just sucks that I can't copy and paste stuff, aarrrrg! I couldn't find the "\" key on my keyboard! Aaahhhh!!! This is certainly not as easy to use as like, the YouTube downloader or anything. But what is cool is that...I don't even need to open a browser as long as I'm typing in the right name of the artist..and something else if I'm forgetting it. Thank you for this!!!... The program really should come with instructions!!!

It doesn't download thumbnails. But sometimes it downloads a somewhat sized-down picture instead of the original.

That's not a malfunction, it just grabs the images from the relevant deviantART RSS feed. To my understanding it downloads the image you see on the screen when you view a deviation in deviantART, instead of the original size picture.

Just change "%artist%" to whatever name you want this folder to have. If you did it on someone's favorites and the name of the folder is "%artist%", it would create a separate folder for each artist.

Am curious though, is there a way to configure things so that it saves the image files directly into the desired folder. Without each individual image being downloaded into it's own separate folder first?

no....it doesn't work....nothing appears in my folder,
no matter whether I follow the directions precisely,
or experiment.... and...the lack of full size downloads
that I hear of, is a show-stopper.... this all another great idea
for functionality...but ultimately its "graduiate student"

I don't know why it doesn't work for you.
As for the size:
It does download the largest size available while viewing the deviation without clicking "download". If the download size is bigger than the view size, the program won't download the full size for you.
In almost all the items in my gallery the view size is the full size, so for my gallery it should download ok.

It's not my program, you should ask the author of the program to recode it to download full size. (it bugged me too)

What I dont understand is that this use to work for me but the all of the sudden stopped. I redownloaded it and even still, it just does not work. I'm not new to java. I've tinkered with the programing language and I play quite a few java games often. What do you suspect the problem is?

1) Connection times out and askes to try again but only to time out again
