I still hate our own local far right more though, for those are the morons I grew up with. On the other hand, nowadays you can't say anything critical about the world of Islam to our local "lefties" (still the majority of our somewhat educated population), or you'll instantly be labeled a "racist". Anytime one takes themselves too seriously there is sickness. They take seriously their anointed position of making everyone "them." You can recognize the type, they don't smile very much.

Here in NL it's almost impossible to belong to anything related to art and culture without hating the US and Israel, agreeing on the fact that "those Jews in Israel are doing the same things the Nazis did to them" and related mental vomit. At the opposite end of the spectrum the anti-culture, anti-immigration and anti-Islam populist/far right have appropriated Israel and anything to do with Judaism, up to and including the Holocaust, which they discovered around 2005 and have been "studying" ever since (liberally ignoring anything to do with tolerance and compassion and the like that doesn't suit their views). Not that they care about Judaism, but because they can use it as a stick for bashing Muslims. In a similar fashion they have positioned themselves as the defenders of gay rights, women's rights and freedom of speech, the assumption being that all Muslims are Holocaust-denying Jew-haters who beat their women into submission, want to see all gays stoned to death and are intent on establishing Shariah law in any country they "invade" (Dutch people of course emigrate to other countries, while Muslims "invade" them
It's a difficult situation to navigate for anyone who tries to think for themselves rather than parroting the rest of the herd, either on the left or right. Add to that a rather confrontation-seeking personality of mine, and you can probably imagine..
