I am constantly amazed about stuff I find out which I guess everyone should know about but apparently nobody does, because many facts are kept hidden from the public because of "interests". How about this one: [link] . To me it seems unthinkable that that isn't taught in history class. But it really isn't.

If it is of any consolation to you, what is taught in schools has changed very much from whem I was young, and we were not told about many things that are commonly known today, for instance, violence toward natiive populations and things like that (In my day, America could "do no wrong" in the eyes of theeducation system). I think that we are moving toward having more accurate and complete history being taught now, perhaps it is onely a matter of time before everyone is told of irish slavery..
