I also wanted He-Man to look exotic but close to home. The thing about Pulp heroes was that even though they traveled the world or were raised by apes they still looked American. Add some 'exotic' clothes, the bracers, long hair to show the barbarian, and the pendant on a golden chain to sum him up as different but not enough to make the kids at home disconnect.
