ooh yea im not in oki, were in zushi. its snowing here like crazy! i like being in zushi cuz tokyo is only an hour away.

They don't hate them, but Okinawa is very "islander" so, think shorter, stocky, with darker skin, and thicker / curly hair... For the most part, I mean that's not all of them, but it's a significantly larger number than Mainland. So it's very outside of the traditional Japanese aesthetic.

well from what weve learned from japanese people and from asian culture class is that mainland japanese people are pretty racist toward okinawan people. always have been. because tanner people mean "farmers" which was the poor people in the past. so they see them all as lesser people.

Being fair, most of this island is either military bases or farm lands. So it's an accurate view of the island.  

However, being racist towards anybody is dickish, but a part of your own country is even worse. Japan is often horrendously xenophobic, and I really dislike that about this culture.

Genuinely interested in what they say about the orphanages? 
One of my friends is trying to adopt (they wont let her, since she's white.) but the staff there are supposedly very nice to the kids.

its not the orphanage thats really the bad thing its why the kids are there. japan has this thing where if the parent gives up a baby its on their record for the rest of their lives so anyone can see it, a work place, a neighbor, anyone. so instead of letting another family adopt the baby they leave it in the orphanage until theyre grown because its more shameful for the baby to be adopted than it is to leave it without a family for its entire life.

its not lack of interest but its the fact that japanese women working rights is becoming stronger so more and more women are working, they dont need a man to provide for them anymore so they dont have to settle down in marriage right away. plus the economy is so expensive its harder for them to afford children. 

not sure if there would be any articles. weve learned it through orphanages and culture class as well as some japanese locals.

A few documentaries that I've seen show abject revulsion an relationships from japanese people. I don't know how common that is, but I do know that Okinawans show zero displays of affection in public. They don't even hold hands. I get a lot of very angry looks when I kiss my husband on the cheek in public, so from what I had understood, it's been long enough since relationships were the norm here, that people have started finding them awkward or disinteresting. 

My theory involves the ready availability of stuff like host / hostess cafes, where you can have the titillation of the early stages of romance, without the distraction or having to face the possibility of a breakup.

yes they do that a lot. ive seen some strange things here lol. also seen the sale of used underwear. kind of creepy! but if you go into tokyo theres a lot more public affections haha! we saw two people having sex up against a building at night XD i bout died haha
