As far as the lasers are concerned i don't think FoE lasers actually use light beams , from what i have read of the lore they are actually magically created disintegration beams .

IIRC the zebras did this with the Pink Cloud; release the gas in Canterlot, then bombard Caterlot continually with missiles and rockets. Celestia and Luna kept their shields up and easily blocked the bombardment, but by doing so they also trapped the Pink Cloud in the city, killing everypony
