Well, it works out, like A LOT!
I totally want to hang out with Rainbow Dash on a cloud though, that's how peaceful, calming, amazing, incredible, and believable it is to me.
I honestly can't recall a painting of Rainbow Dash on a cloud with this emotion, maybe sad, maybe ON a cloud, but like this? Nope!
(I wonder what music she listens to though...)
The lines are simplistic and it seems simplistic, yet you can tell there is something more, but it really fits Dash's personality since she is laid back and easygoing, and in the case of this shot she is LITERALLy laid back, on a cloud.
(Metaphor win bonus points!)
The light is nice too, she's sunbathing!
(And whatever you do don't think about how to make it weird by saying she's naked and too late! I try to be funny, I'm sorry...)

This picture is amazing. When I saw it, it made me want to favorite it, so I did. The headphones look awesome, too. I wish I could relax like that! I like how the light shines on the top of the cloud and is darker on the bottom. Her mane is perfect and she looks very pretty. I like how the mane shines. The headphones have like a 3d texture to it, which is very cool. I also like how you used different colors on the cloud to make the dark effect, the purplish and green. Well. Took me a while to notice this fanart, since my deviantWATCH folder is a mess... but I think it's never too late to write a critique, especially if it's for an artist that I really like and who is one of my inspirations e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="
First of all, I just like this fanart in general. I mean I like the simple idea and how it's pleasing to the eye at first glance (on second glance too, of course, but what I mean is that it catches the eye's attention really well). I assume you wanted to create a fanart that would not only show Rainbow Dash chilling, but also give off a sort of relaxing vibe on it's own. The whole fanart seems to be "chilling", both through simple composition, choice of colors and lighting. So it's really pleasant to look at and makes the viewer feel relaxed too. Which in my opinion justifies the lack of details or any complicated background.
The topic of your art alone isn't what I'd call the most original idea out there (Rainbow Dash resting on a cloud is a popular motive), but the mp3 player (or iPod, dunno) is a really nice touch. I think it's what saves this drawing from being too run-off-the-mill.
As far as technique and the new style you tried... I think you did a great job! I'm obviously no expert, but I just think that you did well, getting out of your comfort zone. The coloring and shading is nicely done, the only thing that seems slightly off to me is the rather sketchy outline of the cloud - while I wouldn't say that it's bad, it just doesn't look too well compared to how good the outlines look on RD. And one last thing in terms of technique... I have big issues with that hind leg, the one that's farther away from us. While the rest of the body is perfect in terms of anatomy, that leg seems way off to me. I might be missing at what angle it's supposed to be, but either way, the first thing I thought was "is it broken?". ... I don't know why, but I just love those eyebrows. They just seem so right here. Can't really explain, but they're perfect here on Dash, nice touch!
I guess that's it. So in general, a very nice piece of art, even if dealing with a well-explored motive, pleasant to look at, with a calm, relaxing air around it. This is a really good color drawing with great emphasis on abstract colors and blending. Which really makes this piece stand out.
Not only this but also the whole idea of Rainbow Dash. Seeing her just chilling on a cloud listening to music shows that you have an understanding of the character and you of course mend it to your will just like any good artist in a fandom.
Overall this is some fantastic work with good vision and creativity, very well made by the looks of your coloring as you must have used several techniques that require a good deal of artistic skill.
Indeed your piece makes Rainbow Dash 20% cooler.

OH MY CELESTA Ok so when i did the other critiques on your work i saw potential i see this im extremely in love with this this is so great i cant even put into words im speechless. You have successfully blown my mind. great job like holy cow im still getting over the fact that this is so great. im so using this as my background for my Chromebook. Ok so ill start from the positives....Basically everything about it is amazing the flow of the clouds, the reflection of the sun beating down on dashie as she enjoys a nice little music jam wile she sleeps. So once again ill say thins cant wait to see more great job and keep doin what you do

Love how you drew this. I've said to other artists that sometimes, drawing a character the way they were drawn previously is not always a good thing, but not in this picture. The way you blended all of the colors together clearly shows your creativity and the way you are deviating from previous works similar to this one. Also, you portrayed Dash's character like a pro, the laid back look you gave her enhanced the entire focus of the drawing, "Dashie is cool, calm, and awesome." I must say, you hit this characters personality spot on, she's the only pony I can imagine listening to an I-pod, anyways. Try harder to draw in this style more, it's amazing.

I really prefer this style of picture over the other one you drew. This one shows more of the peacefulness and happiness of the pony. Since this pony is my favorite character, I like the way of the pony to be presented nicely. This one was really good! I like it a lot!
