Well, technically, since Shulk benefit from 'time roll back to before he was defeated and things are repeated until he wins'... he is kind of technically right.
On another hand, it is also true that player characters tend to have a mortality rate only a tiny bit lesser than normal enemies (and in some types of games, they have the greatest mortality rate).
