Description
10.2014, digital painting, Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier"So, you wanna play russian roulette with the russian assassin? Genius."
Ha! The only person I wouldn't think that way would be... only other assassin
But basic vision was more like mission in Russia (haha, with Nat, I guess), Bucky doing "special agent" stuff, spying and infiltrating XD And that happened
*
Now seriously. I am adding this part of desription after some time and reading Your comments. Yep. There is something deeper in this image (as always in my case). And I want You to dig deeper. There is something behind a game and naughty smile, something more than a party. Something really in Bucky feels. Some of You said that this image reminds them Deer Hunter. I gotta see this movie cause while reading its description I felt that yeah. Please... look for triangle. It is like the six firearm's chambers spinning round and round in real life of many real people... It makes this image dedicate to Buck and people like him. We love You, Buck. Take a care of Yourself, baby.

This artwork was for me: "That moment when You realize that You are painting Bucky Barnes to relax and take a rest from Your other Paintings." Yup. I am totally Buuuuuuckyyyyyyy'd

I wonder if Bucky secretly hopes that there's a bullet in the chamber when he pulls it. Considering what Hydra did to him, it wouldn't surprise me if he's suicidal.

I saw this recently on Tumblr or Instagram, and my immediate thought was, "Sucker, what do you think I have to lose?" Like a live round in the chamber would be a gift to the Winter Soldier. Not that I ever want to see anyone have a live round in the chamber, but at least that would be release.
As usual, your work is soulful and wrenching.

Thank You very much Haha, yup I was thinking the same way ^^ My thoughts were also like "You dare to play Russian Roulette with Russian Assassin? hahaha!"
I'm glad to hear that my artworks gives feels, emotions. Painting them was also emotional thing for me. I love him so much and well... I didn't wanted to make "casual fanarts" but something deeper, psychological, artistic. Reading such comments as Yours I feel that I succeed. You made my day with Your words. Thanks!

It's a film with Christopher Walken and Robert De Niro that features a chilling account of the psychological effects of the Vietnam War on a few men. Here's more information: www.imdb.com/title/tt0077416/

yeh, I immediately though of the Deer Hunter also. but that is because it's probably the one Russian roulette scene from a film that you can't unsee once you've seen it.

I haven't seen this movie, but I guess that I know what You mean ("can't unsee once you've seen"). After planning this artwork I started to wonder how it is with this roulette. And I found that it really depends on how You know the guns... With some of them it is really deathly game (it ends in 6 rounds or faster) and with some the risk isn't that big. So found out that Bucky's smile is not only my imagination. I also was thinking "Ok, if I were Bucky (assassin), would I know the guns that much that I could predict where the bullet can be?". I've hidden here some background ^^ It is always nice for me to see people digging in the artwork
👍: 0 ⏩: 2
Bastard--Prince In reply to UnicatStudio [2014-10-05 09:17:27 +0000 UTC]
yea, supposedly it depends on a few things apart from the general odds, and how you do it, and how maintained the gun is. but always there's the chance of getting the chamber with the bullet in it anyways. I guess it's the sort of thing you would do only in a certain state of mind, or to prove something.
I know people will dig this one, it's kind of a powerful image^^

UnicatStudio In reply to Bastard--Prince [2014-10-05 10:12:34 +0000 UTC]
Couldn't agree more. Yes, I wanted to show this "state of mind" You mentioned here. I think it is not a happy image really (as it seems on the 1st sight - from Bucky's smile and spy/party description). I'm glad it is visible. Thank You for saying it is powerful image. I'm glad to hear it. Even creating fanarts I want them to have something behind, something important.
I'd like to ask You - as a person with a perspective (I don't have it, I am inside my head). Is the second shot visible here? I mean - not every veteran has a gun...

Bastard--Prince In reply to UnicatStudio [2014-10-07 09:47:11 +0000 UTC]
well... when people play RR with others around it usually means they are demonstrating having no fear of death... (it's kind of like the ultimate demonstration of that?) but when they play it alone it can be for different reasons. I'd say if he were doing it alone it would have a different meaning than if he were doing it in a bar.
I'm not sure what you mean by second shot though, is there something hidden away in the painting that I missed? I'm not so great at picking up on hidden stuff.

UnicatStudio In reply to Bastard--Prince [2014-10-07 22:21:37 +0000 UTC]
Second shot - hahahaha, I am sure that if You were Russian or Polish You'd see this at the first sight XDDDD It is very party type of shot but I guess in everyday life it kills more people that russian roulette... Yep... it is all very nice when You look at it all as a "good fun" / "party" / "Spy movie with Bucky". What is interesting things that You wrote about RR can be all said also about that second type of shot Bucky is going to take... Doing this alone at home is a sigh of serious problems... I guess in my Bucky artworks I always hide in the background just Bucky story. Even if I paint him with a smile, winning, in glory (I love seeing him that way and I hope to see him that way in Marvel movies), somewhere in the back of my head I remember what was done to him and what impact it could have on him. Like in You tread on my dreams or Survivor . And to be honest I... like that. Cause... Maybe I just missed something but it is first comic action movie character that I know that tell a story of such huge group of people. Story that is with humanity since thousands of years and it was recognised at the end of XX century. I guess it is one of the reasons I love Bucky so much. He - as character, and Seb Stan telling about this, Marvel showing story of Winter Soldier on big screens are doing great job in my opinion. At the moment I just can't find other comic character showing this problem that way. Always when I paint Bucky I think that I should continue their job
That's why I like to dig something in my artworks
Even fanarts hahaha
But... Who I am talking to... You put into Your Bucky fanarts so many Bucky feels and things to "find out"
You know it all

THAT kind of shot I should've got that, I know that kind pretty well
ah yeah, I guess people forget Bucky was a P.O.W. twice. once in Hydra's camp and the second time in a Gulag. I want to show some of my ideas about that in Steel Rain, things that occurred to him outside the MCU but inside the Marvel universe. There's a lot of things to explore with Bucky that is barely mentioned in the movie.

Hahahaha XDDD before You answered here I thought about myself and my comment "I'm such a dork" XDDDDD I know that You know XDDDDD I mean - alcohol is totally world wide thing. I was thinking that way: in many countries different types of alcohol are popular and shots can look a little different. Ya know, differences between vodka / whiskey / beer / wine / becherovka / sake / tequila etc ^^ It is said that "countries on the east of Odra River" are the Vodka Belt (vodka countries) upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia… That's what I was thinking about hahahaha because Bucky is drinking Russian Vodka here XDDD But yep - Vodka is also worldwide XDDDD
Ok, I LOLed on myself Now we can be a little serious
So Yeah, alcoholism is quite big problem around the world. But as I know some of victims of PTSD (also veterans and POW like Bucky, but not only, PTSD is muuuuuch bigger problem, not only connected with war) are trying to cope with their reality this way. Which is really like "suicide commited in many years". RR is one shot which can kill You, here we got many many many shots... a slow decay of human being. Of course it can be replaced with other things like drugs, medicine so it is here more like symbol... but... yep - I wanted to show this thing too. Especially for some of those people is like being victims till the end of their lifes (the line...). So... Yes - I am very very thankful that Marvel took this problem and is telling about it out loud and that Seb named it with its real name for everyone to know that there is something like PTSD and Bucky has it. BTW in my opinion Seb played it perfectly.
Ah. Steel Rain. Are You going to draw more chapters? hmmm? hmmm?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Bastard--Prince In reply to UnicatStudio [2014-10-08 12:21:37 +0000 UTC]
yeah, that's a pretty clever way of showing both of them... I figure PTSD would definitely come into it for Buck. no doubt. how he deals with it could go any number of ways but none of them would be easy.
oh man. you know what, I can hardly stand the scent of vodka anymore because I drank WAY too much of it when I was younger. waaay too much so I appreciate this idea indeed. I mean, I am stupid enough to have tried Absinthe shots/slammers as well. talk about wanting to die, lol.
I remember someone asking Seb how his character deals with anything in TWS and he was like "no, he just doesn't *doesn't* deal with it," meaning... he has yet to deal with anything and is still completely freaked out and confused. so yeah, if they choose to show him again in a sequel he is almost certain going to have to be dealing with it somehow. given Bucky's previous actions in Cap America 1 I wouldn't be surprised if he tried this. but, he'd probably have to drink a hell of a lot. he's got a super serum that maybe prevents getting drunk easily like Cap's does. he'd probably need like three litres of V to get happy.
oh yeah, I barely even started on SR. soon as I get my other work out of the way this week I'll do more for it. ^^

Thanks a lot I'm glad that You like the idea of "Two shots" ^^
Heh... PTSD is really one big serious topic. Do You know that people found out that PTSD exist at the end of XX century? It was because of veterans from Vietnam hadn't have help from government so they started to meet, in groups and talk about all that what is happening to them. Awesome is the movie "The War" with Eljah Wood and Kevin Costner. Really good movie. So yeah... veterans and feminists. Cause PTSD is also big problem of many women - many victims of domestic abuse, rapes etc. has PTSD too. As I know they: veterans and feminists started to talk about this problem, You know they started a real fight for this problem to be seen and then doctors, psychologists etc. started to look at it closer, making researches etc. And it is really awesome thing cause PTSD is connected also with other types of stress, so they helped with it many people. Before that... soldier on the front with PTSD was taken for some days to the field hospital and when he stopped freaking out - back to the front. Nobody cared. So Yes... I think Bucky as a character is doing now reaaaallly great job. Yes. Seb is right. Bucky will or will not deal with it. Before he was on war he had very strong character, he is strong person so... I think he will get better. But he would have to take care of himself, somebody will have to help him I guess too. And... I don't think he should drink Russian Vodka or other alcohol. No, Buck. It is noooot good idea XDDD
Bucky X PTSD: Therapy just a traditional drawing, but I wanted to show how Bucky's therapy could look like.
OMG. I loled hard while reading about You X Vodka XDDD Sorry, but Vodka, nooo, Vodka is a devil, maaaan. Hahaha. I hope You have enough of it I prefer tea XDDD I used to drink alcohol but... naaaaaah, I am now too old for that stuff XDDD I get bored with that hahahaha. But seriously... I think that if people would drink alcohol with open mind and looking what it is doing to them REALLY they will not like it that much. It is a drug. Like other drugs. As I read (it was a book with toxicological, biological and neuropsychological point of view so... it is not very popular, I guess just goverments have too much money from selling alcohol to make this knowledge more popular, they prefer slogans like "don't drink and drive") it is one of the hardest drugs on earth. Is has quite similiar chemical structure to... heroin, it works on quite similiar parts of brain but the dose is much lower and the way of consuption is other but... old alcoholics look like junkies. Blaaaaah. no. Everything is for people, but for people with a head
Sometimes - one, two drinks or beers are ok, but swinging on chandelier? Naaaaah XD not anymore XDDDD (hahaha I mean - Yep, I know exactly what you mean writing about scent of vodka XDDD)
Ahahahaha Absinthe! LOL. And You did it like Ya know decadents? With sugar, flames all the stuff? XDDDD LOLOLOL. It reminds me funny story. We were with friends on holidays near Slovakia where You can buy quite good Absinthe, so we bought it. 3 of us tasted it and were like "eeeee... this Absinthe is nothing special", but one friend was like "aaaaa! I love it, I wanna more" Ok. so more for him. But he started to freak out XDDDD he was like "Give me the Green Fairy! I need green fairy" I don't know if we was joking or what but he started to see green fairies or something XDDDD That evening was kinda weird XDDD Till then Absinthe is for me totally "Green Fairy" XD
SR - aaaa yes yes yes, Can't wait to see next chapter!

Bastard--Prince In reply to UnicatStudio [2014-10-08 16:05:49 +0000 UTC]
I agree, it is a serious topic and for anyone who's been through various types of severe stress esp. with violence, there needs to be more research on how to deal with it. your gut reactions when something suddenly reminds you of it for example. I know there are certain sounds that will make me react based on past events, like causing you to stress and anticipate violence, and I imagine it's very much the same with people who've been through worse - only much worse. I don't even know what kind of treatment they have for it, if there is any. it's not much of a wonder why soldiers returning from war zones or prison camps have a lot of problems adjusting to 'normal' life. when you live in constant fear of death or torture or need to always be ready to act or react, you are not operating on the same level as someone who never has to think about it.
it's a drug that can do a lot of harm, yea. I know a few alcoholics, some are friends or family, but I wouldn't stop them from making their choice. that's because I couldn't offer them a better alternative other than advice. it's not much good to someone in a dark place to tell them they shouldn't try to blot out their issues and just be happy. it's a drug like any other but, people end up addicted usually for reasons beyond wanting to drink it - to deal with stress and anxiety when there's no other way. so while it makes me sad that I can't help, I also know exactly why some of them do it. and because I know, and I know what it's like to be in said dark place, it's hard to condemn it. I think only those who have never needed an escape like that can fully do so. so I guess I'd say it's bad but... honestly I couldn't tell someone what to do with their life unless they had a kid depending on them or something. then it's different. . .
no, I just drank it straight from the bottle in shotglasses. not recommended, lol. I can believe he started to freak out. the wormwood in it doesn't affect everyone but in my case I went nuts/attacked my two best friends shortly after and had to be sat on till I passed out. then they dumped me in the bath, turned the cold shower on me which didn't wake me up, and took photos. just say no, kids!
