I don't really like to think of today as an anniversary. I'd rather think of it as another Memorial Day, or Remembrance Day, or Celebrating Their Life Day.

I've never had to wonder where Dad is now or whether I'll see him again. Nothing can convince me that there's no life outside this one. What gets me down the most, even to this day, is why it had to be so soon.

Well, Dad did say he wanted to go quickly, so in an odd way, he got his wish. He came home like he always did and then he just plain collapsed in the living room. I wasn't there to see it, but Mom was the one to make the tragic discovery. He'd been dealing with heart problems for quite some time, but none of us had any idea it was this bad.

My grandpa on Dad's side died in the exact same way, except he collapsed outdoors, in the middle of the street. Dad was watching TV at the time and he heard his mom scream, which made him think she was reacting to what was on screen (a violent helicopter crash).

One thing that brings me comfort is knowing Dad is reunited with both his parents. But he also got along famously with Mom's parents, especially Grandpa. So, when Grandma and Grandpa died (we saw both those deaths coming but it was still hard), my very first thought was, "Give Dad a big hug for me."

So, I know it's all a matter of time before I see them again. In the meantime, I hope I can make something meaningful of my own life.
