I didn't like this version of Optimus. Too ... bulky. I much preferred the FE version. Lean but still powerful.
Even so, I like what you did with the repaint. Very nicely done.

I'm not sure about this particular Optimus, though. The robot mode looks bitchin' but those wings and boosters seem out of place on Optimus and the truck looks ridiculous. I prefer my bots to look like something you'd actually see driving down the street and this one is nothing like that. Looks like a garbage truck with a bunch of sci-fi stuff slapped on to try to make it look cool. The "claws" especially look dumb and the slanted windows which look awesome on the bot look too alien on the truck. So much for "robots in disguise," eh? Still looking forward to the show, but not digging the new Optimus.

I couldn't possibly disagree more. It is obvious that the autobots aren't worried about hiding anymore. They have new battle vehicle modes and carry their oversized weapons on their alt modes. If the goal is to defeat a much tougher enemy and the war is no longer a big secret, defensive alt modes makes sense to me. A more cybertronian look with a spiked bumper and weapons doesn't even get remotely close to qualifying as "garbage truck with a bunch of sci-fi stuff slapped on" to me. I think it is a bold way to make the final Prime season more epic and give us some new and different figures for a change. Reminds me of Transmetals in Beast Wars.

That makes sense: I suppose that the bots and cons were never really able to disguise themselves from each other and the secret is definitely out what with the cons having a whole freakin' fortress in Nevada so disguise isn't all that useful any more.
I guess, for me, Optimus' new look is a bit busy and "monsterish" for my taste: I was a big TF fan back in the '80s when they were based on real vehicles and I always preferred that style over most of the cybertronian vehicles that later artists came up with (there are exceptions: I really liked most of the War Within designs, for example, and some of the WfC and FoC designs weren't too bad). The garbage truck thing is just what the shape/size looks like to me: a cab over engine body that goes straight back rather than having a semi-hitch back is exactly what garbage trucks are shaped like... but with claws that make him look like a bad guy and wings (in bot mode) that make him look like he's compensating for something.
I'm sure I'll still enjoy the series, but I'm really not a fan of the new look.

Ah, I gotcha. To me the new Autobot upgrades look like they are desperate, and possibly have been granted a power to help them beat a threat much worse than Megatron ever was. If these were the designs for a new show or even for several more seasons of TFP, I wouldn't be okay with it- if that makes any sense. For a throw down finale to the TFP show, the designs have me very interested though. Like I said, its something different.
Oh and I agree about the whole original idea of real vehicles transforming to robots being cooler. Over the years we seem to get more and more cybertronian designs. Some look great and some look fat and goofy like a lot of the WfC/FoC stuff, but cybertronian seems like an easy route for Hasbro since they are making a robot turn into whatever instead of actual familiar vehicles.

Yeah it is a really nice figure. Nice to see hasbrobro doing more with their designs within the obviously lower budget they have now. Predaking is a really good one too.

according to youtube reviewers this figure is incredibly hollow and has far less mass than any voyager in the Prime line before it

Then they lied their balls off about it being hollow. Aside from some space between the thighs in alt mode (which almost every Optimus has had since the beginning of creation) he is pretty compact. First Prime I know of that fills that empty space you usually get where a trailer should be too. Its no secret that Transformer prices have gone up and sizes have gone down a bit, but this is a bad example of Hasbro cutting corners.
This is a really good figure right out of the box and one of the best Voyager Optimus figures ever made.
